I was posting with speculation....as in what if...
Yep, got that. And I answered as if....
II don't see God as Someone who tests Man.
and somewhere in the book it is written, as such.
Ok. god doesn't test man. Heaven and Hell .. are what then.. not test results?
So where did the notion of killing a child to pleasure God come from?
I suspect it started with a misplaced sense of sacrifice.
Ok. Not from god because god has to be good?
You have proof that.. god never asked for a sacrifice?
Proving a negative are we?
When I read Genesis I notice Cain and Abel are offering sacrifice.
Where did they get that practice?
Was Man already doing so?
1. God created mankind.. at least that's what I think the Bible says.
2. God might have or might not have demanded blood sacrifice.
3, Let's call this an unknown.
4. Then.. yeah.. humans performed blood sacrifice. Cain and Able and all of them.
5. By 2, they were told by god to do it, or not.
6. By 3, we don't know. That's unknown.
7, But if all of this is a myth and not real, then it's humans doing blood sacrifice because they have superstitious beliefs and are very barbaric and bloodthirsty.
8. I'm going with 7.
Picture a scene of a fresh kill and food on the fire.
Something large enough to do so comes sniffing around with interest.
So you sacrifice dinner and throw it to that 'something greater'.
I would call that a good idea to give the big nasty beast food so as not to be eaten myself.
But hey.. call that a sacrifice if you like. I'd call it self preservation.
years pass by.....
Next thing you know Man is offering sacrifice to anything bigger than him.
anything and everything.
Yep, coulda been that way. Sounds reasonable.
We don't NEED any real god for this to work, however, but yeah, It can work.
Then comes that day when someone says to God....I love you more than my own blood.
and God might say .....prove it.....
Why would an all knowing god need with proof? An all knowing god has all the proof in the universe it wants or needs.
Prove it to WHO?.. God already knows if Abraham is telling the truth.
God is like an uber Santa Clause that way.
So, Abraham needs to prove what he believes is true to himself? Seems like he already believes that his feelings are truly feels... BUT... let's have some MORE proof, because just truly feeling something isn't like burning your own SON to know if your feelings are "true".
Nothing says truth like blood sacrifice.
I mean, math, science, logic and even common sense is all very nice, but if you REALLY want to know if something is true or not, there's NOTHING like a good old bonfire and a screaming witch or two. A son is better.. but they might be hard to catch at time. Wiley bunch these sons.
Anytime I want to prove to myself that I love someone, the FIRST thing that pops into my mind is to burn one of my kids so that I can find out if my feelings of LOVE are true.
Kids are handy epistemological tools that way. Burn one and truth just happens. Magically.
It's not good enough just to FEEL a great love for someone.
I have to PROVE to myself that I feel a great love for someone.
I do that all the time.
It's just so natural.
