Love the confidence. Welcome to RF. This is a tough question, but what do they teach you in school about WW2?

Is it easy to be a vegetarian in Germany?

Some places in the US, they look at you crazy if you go into a restaurant and ask for a meal without meat.
In California though I can go into about any restaurant and they'll have a vegetarian menu.

Are you of German ethnicity or did your family move to Germany. I had a Polish grandma who made the world's best sauerkraut pierogies. The store bought ones look like golf balls to me.

We have so much in common...I've been 13 for almost 50 years!
Anyway, is it true that all Germans dance like this.....

Leibowde: WW2 is very present in school, not only in history(in my grade we are just at 1700, but hihhrr students told me so), but also in german lessons where we, for example, have to read the diary of anne frank, and in religion(we have religious education in school), they also teach us about the 3 reich and why racism is against gods will. We don't learn much about the battles, the shoah is the main theme, to make it never happen again. In the next grade, we will also have a day in the Concentration Camp Dachau.

Nakosis: In Germany it's very easy to live vegetarian, our green movement has a grest influence not in the politics but also in the all-day-life. OK, Munich is a big city, and we have many different restaurants here, but also in the supermarkets there are many forms of vegetarin food because people request it.

Wirey: I can't find the matching emoticon. :D

George: I have german anchestors only.

Revolt: :D

Thanks......One suggestion; When you answer someone's question on here it is best to use the reply button to their original question. The reason is they get an automatic alert from the system that they have been replied to.......anyway, you're doing great...I don't remember being so smart at 13:)

Do you go to a private religious school? In public schools here in America they can't teach what is for/against God's will or that there IS even a God.

No, it's a state school. In germany the big relevant religious groups have the right to give religious education in school, when they are organised and not against the Grundgesetz, the German contitution. The organisation is the reason why the muslims can't do religion in school until yet, because they can't agree who should represent them. Religious education is obligatory, but in some fedrral states you can go to ethics insteadl. I'm catholic so i get catholic education.
But the churvhes can't teach what they want, they have to teach us also about other religions and to be tolerant.

Very interesting, I didn't know that. It would just seem that here in America the details of this would cause all kinds of controversy. I'm surprised it isn't the same in Germany.

Its because of Tradition, the big churchs are still very powerfull here, and don't forgrt, katholizism and protestantism had been state religions, every federsl country the way the lord of the country belived. And because religious education or the neutral ethics education is a good way to teach the pupils moral, tolerance, the principles of being a good human and the sense of the constitution.

Also our free days are often religious, in Bavaria we get kstholic free days like Maria Himmelfahrt, in Berlin for Example it's the Reformation day.

The churches are also the reason why thevsunday is still a free day for big parts. There are some exceptions, like gas stations, but most of business is not allowed on sunday.

Not to brag, but.....OK, I'm bragging.....when I was 13, I was the smartest kid in 3rd grade....the tallest too!

Questions:
- Is Sergeant Schulz as beloved in Germany as he is here?
- Is there a Hummel figurines of Groundskeeper Willie?
- Are there any of me ancestors there who haven't yet been hanged for sheep thievery?
- A museum I belong to will have a compression ignition engine show some day. Would you be willing to ship Rudolf Diesel's body over here for display?

Note:
One of those is a trick question.
A frubal for the first poster to spot it?

-Who is Seargent Schulz?
-Unfortunately not.
-We didn't hang sheep thieves, they must live as sheeps in the herd and got sheared every year.
-No, we won't give him to you.
