What do you do for a living and what is your favorite thing about your job?

I'm a semi-retired manager currently working part-time remotely recruiting for a logistics company.

My favorite part of my job is that I don't have to put on pants. :D

I am a faculty (professor) at a high ranking University in India.
Favorite: I get to teach students and do research on things that interest me...and be with very bright people all day.

I teach a number of English classes at two academies in the same building. (The academies and the building are privately owned by the same couple.) Some of my classes are for elementary students while others are for middle school students. A few of the classes are Reading, Extra Reading, and Listening. Other classes are not a particular subject but involve a cycle of mainly reading a textbook, writing an essay, and taking a test on the unit or chapter. I also teach a couple of basic classes for kindergarten and 1st to 2nd grade students.

My most favorite thing about my job is interacting with my students. A second favorite thing is helping them improve in their use of English. A third favorite thing about my job is that I have to show up anytime between 1:30 and 1:45 pm, which is great for me because I am not a morning person. The earliest classes begin at 2:35. They are all basic classes because in Korea, the elementary school hours are shorter than in the US. Anyway, this is a full time job, so I leave just after 9 pm.

I have to wear pants, but it can be pajama pants with cartoon characters on them. Probably my favorite thing.

I manage the Chaos within the place I live.

Oh, there's usually a cat nearby to pet.

Retired but my career was in IT - coding, programming, system administration and a couple of management stinks (Freudian slip for 'stint' but accurate).

As a programmer, building something that was intellectually satisfying that people used. As a system administrator playing detective to slap a program silly, er, fix whatever was causing a problem.

Since I've retired I still do IT stuff as a volunteer and still get satisfaction from it.

I'm a professor. My favorite part of the job is really the autonomy I have over my own time. I have a lot of work to do, but I can decide when I do it, and I'm not chained to a desk. I like hanging out with professors in other fields (and in my own), and with students who are bright and enthusiastic. The university environment is a wonderful workplace.

I'm retired too, but I had a quite interesting career in mechanical engineering, starting off as a lowly draughtsman and then moving into the aerospace industry as a designer. This then saw me moving into other more interesting areas when I was given the opportunity to taste other specialist areas within the industry. Apart from often working with a team, much of the work involved early computers, electrical systems, and hydraulic systems, and perhaps one of the best things was that problem-solving was often necessary given the complexity of many projects. Computer programming was also part of my work. Like being in any engineering environment, there was often also the opportunity for some 'homework' to occur.

The 'homework' during my early engineering apprenticeship often involved tuning mods to a car or making boomerangs.

I'm semi-retired.
  1. Career: I was an IT Systems Administrator. I liked making the systems do what I wanted/needed them to do (much control freak?), and therein solving problems. That was largely though because I found writing system procedures to be creative.
  2. Retirement job: Slicing cold cuts in a supermarket deli... an extremely busy supermarket deli, which is literally at a non-stop pace. What I like about it is the sense of cammaraderie I have with my coworkers. I feel like part of a team, a little family. Besides the team cammaraderie I like waiting on and serving people, giving them what they need/want. It makes me feel important and worthwhile.
