PART 1 - [ch2:v287] “Allah burdens not any soul beyond its capacity……”
All commandments of Allah the Exalted are doable by human of various mental and physical abilities. There are minimum and maximum standards which should be practiced with honesty accordingly .
Islam’s beautiful teaching is given by keeping the human nature in view.
Hazrat Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) said: No person is forced to accept things which are against wisdom. No responsibility of Shariah is asked to bear which is beyond power and capacity of faculties. ‘la yokallayfullaho nafsan illa wus-aaha’ [Allah burdens not any soul beyond its capacity….2:287] This verse clearly shows Allah’s commandments are not un-obeyable. Conditions and directives are not sent by God the Exalted in the world that He may manifest His proud of eloquence, inventing laws and creating puzzles for human. [If it was so It would have amounted to] As if He had already in mind what is the foolish and weak human, and how to act upon these directives ! God the Exalted is above and pure to do such vain act.
Allah expects from human to follow His directives according to what faculties and capabilities they have been given. Allah does not issue commandments to establish His awe like those officers who give undoable orders to subordinates and then dishonor them. Mercy of God the Exalted upon His servants is unlimited; when human acts on His directives which He has asked to do, grants unlimited reward. Should human not strive to act upon such merciful God’s directives ? Surely a true believer strives for that and should do.
Hazrat Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) said in explaining ‘la yokallayfullaho nafsan illa wus-aaha’ [Allah burdens not any soul beyond its capacity….2:287]: The Shariah depends on softness not harshness. Shariah gives gentleness and easiness.
Allah the Exalted wants every human to have faith that is why His directives have standards for all levels of wisdom, aptitudes and other factors. Like in worldly life, people excels or lags in faith. Allah demands in Holy Quran why people do not have faith? But it does not demand that every believer should become like Hazrat Abu Bakr (r.a.) or Hazrat Umer (r.a.).
A person came to Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) and asked about Islam. He (s.a.w.) said Five Prayers are obligatory in day and night. He asked Is there any other Prayer (obligatory) than that. He (s.a.w.) said:No. But if you want to offer nawafil (extra) you may. Then Holy Prophet (s.a.w.) said: Fasting for one month is obligatory. The man asked, Is there other Fasting obligatory than that. He (s.a.w.) said: No. But if you want to Fast as nawafil you may. Similarly Holy Prophet (s.a.w.) mentioned Zakaat. The man said Is there any other Zakaat for me than that. He (s.a.w.) said: No. But if you want to offer nafal-sadqah (extra charity) for thawab (reward) you may. After hearing these matters, the man returned, saying, By God, I will not do more or less than that. He (s.a.w.) said: If he says truth, consider him successful [he will get Falah] and gave glad tiding for Paradise.
Thus it shows that Islam has not asked everyone to be at the heights like those of Hazrat Abu Bakr (r.a.) and Hazrat Umer (r.a.)….. Hazrat Abu Bakr (r.a.) brought all things of house besides Zakaat to help faith. Hazrat Umer (r.a.) brought half of things of house and thought today he would excel but found Hazrat Abu Bakr (r.a.) had already presented everything of his house.
Believers are encouraged to offer nawafil [extra worships, offerings of finances and time]. Believers progress in faith and certainty and compensate their shortages in obligatory worships and offerings. But nawafil are not obligatory. Deeds of very high ranks depends on capabilities. Islam makes obligations based on least common human capabilities.
Hazrat Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) said: God the Exalted does not burden human selves to accept anything beyond their capacity of knowledge - And presents those creeds whose understanding is within limit of human capacity so that His commandments should not be within burden-beyond-capacity.
Thus everyone’s limit of understanding is the standard of his virtue. Allah the Exalted watches the depth of our heart. He knows any deceptive excuse of less knowledge, wisdom and capacities. Keeping it in view, one should check faith and deeds. One should not deliberately adopt the least possible standards. For example Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) mentioned least obligatory standards as Five daily Prayers (in congregation for men), Fasting and Zakaat (if applicable)…..When the above mentioned man said he would do not more not less, it was the least standard.
As we strive for worldly matters, we should do more than that for faith-matters. We should strive to increase capacities. Capable people move ahead but weak need support for moving but they do not give up. In worldly matters it is possible that one is burdened more than his capacity but it does not happen in faith.
In faith one may need support to understand certain matters; weak believers should go to these supports (similarly as a weak student repeatedly try to learn from teacher). If a teacher does not help, he does not fulfill his responsibility.
PART 2 – GUIDANCE FOR RELIGIOUS TRAINERS.
Hazrat Khalifatul Messiah (may Allah be his Helper) said, here, I want to draw attention of teachers of faith i.e. Murabbiyyan [religious trainers], Muballeghin [conveyors, preachers] and Learned People. Allah the Exalted has given them enhanced capacities they should use them well; and by their capacities help weak to increase their capacities knowledge-wise. It will be their thankfulness to God the Exalted for His grant of capabilities. Lack of true thankfulness to Allah the Exalted is sin. Thus Murabbiyan, Muballeghin and other Life-Devotees who have religious knowledge should especially strive to uplift the current capabilities of people. It will augment faith and certainty of individuals and progress of Jama'at. “wal takum minkum ummatum yad-una elal khaire……” [3:105] ‘and let there be a group among you who should invite to goodness’.
Jama'at has various Jamiat [religious institutions] in various countries of the world, these institutions are making many Murabbiyan and Muballeghin [religious trainers and conveyors]. They have not learnt religious knowledge only to make speeches or do debates or for special occasions. They must also have to continuously train common members of Jama'at as duty. They have to teach existing members the ways to increase in faith and certainty and capabilities. And also they have to call the world to goodness……. Huzur (a.t.) said: Some experienced ones say there is no work, we quickly finish the assigned works…It is wrong way and it is excuse….Some pay more attention to household duties rather than Jama'at work. Some pay more than enough attention to their selves. Such are few, but in a small Jama'at they become clearly visible….The fresh ones are serving with sacrifice and zeal….The experienced ones need to make better use of their capabilities in the line of their duty to enhance capabilities of members of Jama'at.
[3:105] ‘and let there be a group among you who should invite to goodness’….This implies that this group has enhanced capabilities and knowledge and they have presented themselves to serve. Therefore they have to pay the right to the best of their capacities. When everyone shall do it, weak brethren and also standard of Jama'at will progress.
Similarly there are office holders of Jama'at. Members of Jama'at recommend them with thought that their capabilities, knowledge and wisdom is better. If the thought of choosers is not this, they do not pay right of trust because this thought is the least standard. If it is kept in mind, never could an office holder get chosen who is selected only for the sake of rank.....It is the duty of office holders that they should strive to raise the religious and learning standard of members and their capabilities too.
