Who Was Matthew?

Matthew was a publican, or tax collector for the Roman government (Saint Matthew 9:9). He left his pofession to follow the Savior and became one of the original Twelve Apostles. He was also known as Levi (Saint Mark 2:14).

Anyone have any other information they would like to add?

Only that Matthew's gospel was written 50 years or so after Jesus' death, so was not written by one of his disciples ( unless he was very old at the time).
If you already knew this then forgive my ignorance. I don't know if christians think the two people were one and the same.

Matthew's true name is MattithYAH. To know the real person, need to know his real name first. Likewise Jesus' real name is YAHshua... Learn more from YAHWEH Sword, Book of The Covenant etc.
