What is NOT a communist

...A capitalist (obviously) and a socialist. Even the USSR knew they weren't communist. USSR means Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.

So... communism in Europe? Never happened. Communism in the world? Yep, in tribes in nature.

But I think close to communism were the ancient Spartans. :)

There are and have been many tribes and communes who operate under a generalized definition of communism. Pretty much our entire species before horticulture and agricultural revolution, prompting us to make semi-permanent and permanent settlements, and with them the idea of private property and wealth.

As for the Spartans they were so ascretic it's hard telling. And, to my knowledge, the question of if intentionally having so little that sharing becomes required would be considered communist or a manifestation of adherence to another ideology (such as the Spartan's fierce adherence to their ancient form of facism).
