What is Bahai?

When my daughter was in first grade, we were in Quito, Ecuador. Her class at the American school celebrated a special day from each of the religious backgrounds represented in her class. She recieved a wonderful t-shirt from the Bahai children that said "Mankind is one" written in a number of different languages. The little I learned about it is that is was a religion in Persia before Iran/Muslim faith took over. It recognizes one God who who is worshipped by many religions across the world, all having a partial understanding of the Creator. Is that even close?

Mostly right.
The Baha`i Faith came into being AFTER Islam had become the major religion of the east and BEFORE Persia became Iran. The date of the Declaration of the Bab was May 23rd, 1844 CE.

Its not that the religions have "partial" understandings, it is that each religion builds upon the revelations from before and promises another step in the progress at a time in the future.

www.bahai.org is a good source of information about the faith.

I'm an American Baha`i. I declared more than thirty years ago.

Regards,
Scott

I don't know a lot about Baha'i, but from what I've seen it's members post, I'm impressed. I see a great tolerance of other religions, and your members have set a nice example. If I were to choose to label myself with a religion, I would choose your. Kudos.
Steve.
