There's alot of us trying to explain why we believe what we do? My questions are: What do you recieve? What do you gain? Is it just for fun? What is your reward for doing what you do? Is it for what you recieve in this life now or is it for eternal life?

I believe what i do because i know God and Jesus are there, waiting to embrace those who are loyal to Them. Everything i do now is done to further my strength in God and Jesus. We may live one hundred years on this earth, but an eternity in heaven, and i would rather spend it in a good place.

I guess I don't think about it as "doing something for a reward." It's not about *me*. I believe I am here for no other reason than to glorify God and to do His will. Everything I do is to please Him, for no other reason than to please Him.

I have received peace in my heart. Though my mind might become troubled by events around me, my heart remains at peace. With this peace comes a joy.

"Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou has created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created."
    -Revelations 4:11

We please God when we have faith in Him.

"But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him."
    -Hebrews 11:6

We please him when we are obedient.

"And Samuel said, Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice and to hearken than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry."
    -1 Samuel 15:22-23

We please him when we offer praise.

"Whoso offereth praise glorifieth Me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I show the salvation of God."
    -Psalms 50:23

We please Him when we seek Him out in order to know Him better.

"That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God."
    -Colossians 1:10

We please him when we love and revere (fear) him.

"And now, Israel, what does the Lord thy God require of thee, but to fear the Lord thy God, to walk in all His ways, and to love Him, and to serve the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul."
    Deuteronomy 11:12

We please him when our behavior reflects our faith.

"But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased."
    -Hebrews 13:16

"To do justice and judgment is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice."
    -Proverbs 12:3

I did not "believe" in order to gain a thing. In fact I had to die and give up everything.

But in dying to my old self, I have truly gained a new life. But that was not my impetus.

John 12:24 I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. 25 The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. 26 Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.

Melody thanks, these verses you quoted, would do wonders for people if only they would consider them.

Why call me Lord, but not do what I say.

Simply because it was the "truth".

    Why else would I believe?

I do not believe in order to gain a reward. I believe because it enriches my own life and gives me a connection to the Divine that i have lacked in my life.

I came to believe simply because I came to believe the resurrection. As for the reward, that fllows from accepting it. Heaven really wasn't that much of a factor for me...until the resurrection. So, I can honestly say it all rises and falls on that for me.

What do I gain? Well, it gives me a system of thought to hang myself in (either positively or negatively ;) ). It also gives a degree of internal peace that I didn't really have any idea existed until after the fact.

You actually gain many legal rights (spiritually speaking). You gain a legal right to eternal life because of what Jesus did. Everything that Adam lost, Christ has redeemed for you. Right to a home in heaven. Right to use the authority of the name of Jesus Christ in prayer in order to get results. You gain the rights to the Father's protection, care, guidance. You become a son of God, a friend of God, an heir, joint-heir with Christ in the family. The indwelling presence of the holy spirit. Right to be changed at the second coming. Legal right to an immortal body. An inheritance in the new heaven and the new earth. And these are only a portion of of rights...available now, not when you die. A fine job did Christ work huh?

Because i have learned many good things from the Bible. This has lead me to try my best to cultivate a Christian personality. (Ephesians 4:22-24) knowledge about Jehovah God and Jesus christ is essential in order for me to gain eternal life. (John 17:3) However, others also need to hear the good news so that they too can be saved. All true Christians must witness to others. It is God’s command.—Romans 10:10; 1 Corinthians 9:16; 1 Timothy 4:16.

I personally want peace, joy, happiness and love. When I am fully in these feelings, I feel lighter than air. Same as when I have a feeling of overwhelming compassion. Negative feelings make me feel heavy and dark. I prefer the the higher vibration to the lower one, so I sought out those feelings. I found them temporarily with the aid of drugs, but found that to be a cheap shortcut with too much karma attached. The bible (as well as other texts used by the truth keepers) tells us how to reach and keep this higher vibration. And Jesus was our living model. He was able to reach such a high level of vibration that his body became light enough that he could walk on water. My son asked if he could walk on water like Jesus, I told him, 'sure, as long as everything you ever do is done with love.'
