Was Jesus conceived through Gabriel as the Holy Spirit?

I've read that some Muslims believe Jesus was conceived through Gabriel, or that Gabriel is the Holy Spirit that "came upon" Mary.

How prevalent is this idea, and on what basis is it justified?

Islam teaches that angels have no gender and are made of light. Anyone who says what you've told us is either very ignorant of very dishonest.

And it's the first time that I hear it ever whether with people I know or on the net.

It was Gabriel who came to Mary for the news from God of her having a son. He was sent to convey the message and he is the 'Holy Spirit' in Islamic teachings. In Arabic he is called 'Ruh Al Qudus' (The Holy Spirit)
