True Morals:The Philosophy of The Teachings of Islam

TRUE MORALS
The real era of good or bad morals starts when human’s God-granted wisdom becomes mature and he is able to differentiate between virtue and evil or between the status of two evils or two virtues. And then he feels regret in his heart by leaving good path and feels guilty by doing something bad…….This stage of human life called ‘Nasf e Laywamah’, according to Holy Quran.

Mere advice is not enough to take a person from raw / savage state to moral state. It is essential that he should have at least that much understanding of God that he should not consider his creation absurd so that due to knowledge of God, true morals are born in him. That is why, God the Exalted has asked to pay attention to get knowledge of true God. God has assured that each action and moral makes a result, which causes spiritual delight or spiritual anguish in this life and its effect will be manifested in Other-Life. Thus at the stage of ‘Nasf e Laywamah’, human has that much enough wisdom, knowledge and pure conscience which makes him feel remorse at wrongdoing and he desires to do good deeds.

KHALQ AND KHULQ – EXTERNAL MAKING (LIMBS) AND INTERNAL MAKING (MORALS)
The word ‘khalq’ means apparent creation and ‘khulq’ is internal creation i.e. morals……Common people mistakenly think that ‘khulq’ / morals means only gentleness, softness and humbleness….In fact, all internal conditions related to external limbs are ‘khulq’ / morals. For example:

= Human shed tears with eyes. Connected to it, there is a internal faculty, in heart, which is heart-full-of-sorrow. When this faculty is used through wisdom at proper occasion, it becomes a moral.

= Human fights with opponent with hands. The corresponding faculty in heart is bravery. When used at proper occasion, it becomes moral.

= Human saves the oppressed people by his hands, gives to poor and hungry or help humanity through any way. The equivalent faculty in heart is mercy.

= Sometimes human punishes the persecutor by hands. The parallel faculty in heart is revenge.

= Sometimes, human does not fight back the oppressor and overlooks the oppression. The corresponding faculty in heart is patience and forgiveness.

= Human uses his hands, feet, heart and brain to grant benefit to humanity or uses his wealth for their wellness. Corresponding to it, the faculty in heart is called generosity.

When all these powers are used at proper time and occasion, these are called morals.

Allah (eminent is His Glory), addresses to our Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) and says to him:

“…..you do surely possess magnificent moral excellences.” [Holy Quran, Surah Al Qalam, verse 5]

Thus according to above explanation, it means that all kinds of morals like generosity, bravery, justice, mercy, benevolence, truthfulness, ambition etc are gathered in you (s.a.w.), according to Allah.

All possible faculties present in human heart like manners, modesty, trust, regard, indignation, bashfulness, steadfastness, chastity, abstinence for the sake of worship, moderation, sympathy and similarly bravery, generosity, forgiveness, patience, benevolence, truthfulness, devotion etc --- when all these raw / natural states are used at proper time and occasion with the consultation of wisdom and thinking, they shall be called morals.

Human can progress. He can bring raw / natural passions into moral conditions by following the true religion, having virtuous company and practicing the righteous teachings. No other life form shares it.
