the motel policy VS popular belief

I have never understood why motels supply a room with -"the Gideon's bible".
While as I was growing up, and still most people have a king's James bible.
I realize like iin the Masons bible -there are subtle differences in versions.
In others major differences.
Has anyone read Gideons bible ? Is it the most unwanted of bibles and that is why they are found in motels???

It's not the hotel supplying the bible. I think it's a religious organization, the Gideons, that go around to hotels and place a bible in each room. It's their missionary outreach.
I also thought they placed the familiar King James translation, rather than any unique translation of their own.
