The Fish
Out of the egg I go, many brothers and sisters,
It isnt long before I start to hear whispers.
To the shallows, we make it with luck,
Right underneath a big red duck.
More and more content as the days go by,
I suddenly realize Ive lost my right eye.
How did this happen? I felt no pain,
The one who took it, what did he gain?
I look at my brothers, they are just like me,
But they dont seem to care, they say theyre happy.
Eating from the muck, we stay big and dumb,
The duck keeps eating us until were all gone.
But more fish keep coming, we do not diminish,
Will we ever get to know the finish?
To nourish this duck, is this why we exist?
A couple of brothers start to get pissed.
Three of us go away from the flock,
Searching for answers we do not look back.
We meet a few others who have done the same,
What part do we play in this elaborate game?
We meet a fish with both his eyes,
He tells us of the red ducks lies.
He feeds us a platter of truth and pure food,
It feels fantastic to finally remove the hood.
Across the pond he takes us with haste,
There is very little time to waste.
Green ducks all around, its a surprise to see,
Things that I never imagined could be.
Lifted up from the water, our vision is restored,
Our wounds all healed, we must return to the hoard.
Lifted up to the light, we know why were here,
We have nothing to lose, no reason to fear.
Our old brothers spit on us and say we dont belong,
But we just smile and sing a happy song.
After listening to reason, they start to wake up,
Realizing the deceit of the ugly red duck.
Many of them start across the pond,
They think its far, but it doesnt take long.
They go a short distance and the light is much closer,
Out of the darkness comes a faint whisper.
Moving closer to the light, the whisper gets louder,
The red one is scared, he might lose his fodder.
A little further and they would have been set,
Still half blind, most decide to stay wet.
When we get enough fish we will learn to fly,
Out of the water and into the sky.
We will find the red duck and return his right eye,
If he will not take it, then he will surely die.
Either way, the fish will awaken,
They will clearly see the path to heaven.
