The "end" of the Cold War......

How many of you remember the days of "duck & cover drills" at school?? How many of you remember where you were when you heard the good news that the WALL in Berlin had come down??? How many of you remember the Cold War??? And, what should our relationship be with the remains of the USSR?? Should we treat them as former adversaries.....or begin to build bridges?? My vote is for the later.....Russia is one of the countries that still has a Nuclear arsonel(SP), and we need to make sure we remain friends with them, and that they continue along the road to Freedom. Not to say that Communism is a bad thing......IN THEORY......however, it does not work in reality.....IMO. I am very glad for their help during WW II, as they helped a LOT on both the German and the Japanese fronts.

Peace is always better than war. As far as I know, we both have wepons pointed towards each other, so yes, we need to continue to try to build bridges of peace between ourselves.......... and everyone else.

I don't remember the 'Cold War', but it wasn't as big a fuss here. We had lefty, veering socialist, governments while America was praying to the gods of anti-communism. I remember the Berlin Wall coming down. Thought it was a perfectly good wall, and they were a bunch of vandals. I was only a child in my defense.

What's a Communism?

Here are several sites on the Cold War:

I also suggest you read BEYOND PEACE, by Richard Nixon. This book tells, from Nixon's point of view, his ideas on how we should be dealing with countries such as Russia, China, Iraq(pre-current war), and other countries. Very good read, IMO. Course, I am a Rep., so I do realise that there are going to be some who cringe at the thought of reading ANYTHING by Nixon! LOL

Exactly. We need to make friends, not enemies.
