I see, I assumed it meant the same, silly me .jewscout said:It says to honor your parents, you don't have to love or like them
Good point Jewscout. There is however the point that we hate the 'sin' and not the 'sinner' - ori; which effectively means that you can come to a point where you realize that your parents may have sinned against you - but you still Love them .jewscout said:It says to honor your parents, you don't have to love or like them
No, and unfortunately many people don't see the distinction. Here's an example: I have no doubt my brother loves my parents, but I do not think he "honors" them since the only time he seems to call them is when he wants them to watch his kids while he and his wife (a flight attendant) both need to be out of town at the same time.orichalcum said:I see, I assumed it meant the same, silly me .
My older son "honors" me each time he's broke.Melody said:No, and unfortunately many people don't see the distinction. True love is not conditional....towards God or humans.LoPar said:Aternate Question....
Should we love God, Jesus, (Insert all might entity here) no matter what even if bad things happen to us?
I agree Melody. And while the Love is true it matters not the actions of the one in which you place that love. The ability of True love to remain true regardless of the actions levied against it is what is at stake within families, with friends, and across religious and social boundaries.True love is not conditional....towards God or humans.
No love and respect are earned, and so they should be.orichalcum said:Should a child love its parents no matter what?
If you believe god controls everything...no.LoPar said:Aternate Question....

I disagree. Love and respect should be given regardless. They should be given to people who you just meet or know little about. Their actions could lose them either of these things but not the other way around. Just my opinion though. No love and respect are earned, and so they should be.
This is where forgiveness comes in. You have to accept the fact that you chose your parents for a reason. Even the abusive ones. Most souls feel that the love they bring as a child will help heal the parents they choose. Unfortunately, the parents still have free will, and many souls are disappointed by not being able to fulfill their mission with their parents. They will either be stronger for it, or they will fall victim to their parents bad choices.orichalcum said:I know it is one of the 10 commandments, but what if they have been abused?
I could not forgive for some of the things I've heard. This is where forgiveness comes in. You have to accept the fact that you chose your parents for a reason.

Choose my parents? I didn't know sperm crept around until they found the appropriate testicle.

That is refering to the reincarnation. Before the soul reincarnates, it choses its life experiences to live, including what type of parents to have.Choose my parents? I didn't know sperm crept around until they found the appropriate testicle.
