I used to be pretty Conservative on this issue, but I've adopted more Moderate political views as of late and have begun to rethink my former position, and that is of the right a citizen has to end his or her life.
Should it be acceptable for anyone of sound mind and body to make and carry out the choice of terminating their own existence? It is different than abortion in my view, because the victims in that situation have no say in the matter, whereas if you are a rationally minded person, shouldn't that be your right to die?
It begs two questions really:
1. Can someone who is seriously considering suicide for reasons not related to depression (such as poor health) ever be in their right mind while having these thoughts? Or should we just automatically label them as depressed and not in their right mind?
2. What right does the government have to keep a person alive, if the person is of sound mind and body? Unless the person has an upcoming trial, or is pregnant, or something like that, why should the government keep them alive against their will?
