RED LETTER CHRISTIANS: NEO-MARXISM IN THE CHURCH?[/url]

This is one of the most offensively ignorant articles I've ever read.

Wow, that is some article.

Though I do have to say that I find the term 'red letter' Christians interesting. I have always found it problematic that some Christians appear to pick and choose what they want to believe, creating the image of a peaceful Jesus and interpreting the meaning of the Bible to match that. I had never heard that term before, but it is interesting.

Thanks for sharing.

Never heard the term before,
But it covers my beliefs very well.
I will alway give precedence to Jesus Teachings.
There are other good words in the bible.
But one must remember we are talking about Christianity not Paulianity.

One could argue that evangelicals also "pick and choose their verses", not just the red-letter sayings of Jesus. In Acts, the post-resurrection Christians clearly have a "socialist" society, holding all things in common...so rigidly enforced by God that a couple who try to hold back some possessions meet the ultimate punishment. In Leviticus, the punishment for doing work on the Sabbath is as drastic as that for homosexual acts, yet I don't see them picketing state houses asking that we change the law so Wal-Mart is forced to close on Sundays. It's so much easier to use the Word to coerce other peoples' behavior, rather than to challenge our own.

BTW, putting the sayings of Jesus in red letters is based on scholarship that traces those sayings as being written down earlier than the Gospels, and therefore have a greater claim to absolute credibility. It is reasonable to discern a difference between the religion OF Jesus from the religion ABOUT Jesus.

I have never seen a Bible with Jesus' quotations pick out in red letters, In fact I had never even heard of one, before this thread.
But I would not consider it a bad idea.

As for opening shops on a Sunday. This was against the law in the UK until quite recently 60's or 70's.
The only shops that could open, were ones owned and staffed by Jews. which had to close on a Saturday.
The only sports that could be played were ones that did not charge for entrance.
