The manipulation of bits are required to make conventional computers work. So unsurprisingly, qubits can be used to build a quantum computer.

However, there are a number of difficulties currently standing in the way of realizing the dream of many. Namely decoherence and entanglement.

We have made significant progress however in the last few years. If we could realize the potential of quantum computers it would have tremendous implications for our understanding of reality.

Needing to run at a very low temperature is one problem that would make scaling it up difficult I would think.
