Has anyone heard of a photo restoration mini-program that's found
within the WhatsApp-esque WeChat app, called "You and Me" (or
"You and Me When", roughly; in Chinese it's displayed as "你 我 当 年").

It's a Chinese app that automatically restores blurry/old images, and
it's downright amazing, imo. The only thing that baffles me is that I
haven't seen this technology more widespread. I've been getting
results that simply knock me off my chair. I mean, there is the capability
to do similar from scratch using a sophisticated photo-editing tool
(I have GIMP, of which I have only a basic knowledge), but "You
and Me" does all the work, with, like I said, amazing results.

For those who are aware of this sort of "auto-restore" technology,
do you know of other, similar apps that do the same thing this
one does? I'm paranoid that this app will one day be removed
and then, omg, the withdrawal symptoms I'll have.... :D

The app seems to focus primarily on the faces within the photo it's
sharpening. Surrounding elements may remain somewhat blurred.
    Still, it's fantastic.

An article, with screen-shots and directions on how to use the app
(in Chinese, so the translate option will come in handy, here) can be found here.
