No Death Penalty for Child Rape!

And a living criminal is a financial drain.

Like everything else, the state squats on millions trying to put someone to death. It's actually cheaper to keep felons alive - unless you're fine with just throwing people into the gallows with no care for their innocence beyond the original court trial.

I think the death penalty should be reserved for only the worst of humanity (i.e. war criminals, say, responsible for genocide or other such atrocity), so I am okay with the court's ruling.



Whether the punishment is worse than the actual crime, besides being debatable, ignores the psychological effect of sex crimes on the victims that is long (life-long) lasting. Sexual predators are scum of the worst sort, in my opinion (I hate them more than murderers), and though I tend to oppose the death penalty (even for them), it doesn't mean I don't desire to rid the world of each and every one of them personally. I just believe our justice system shouldn't be based on emotional, knee-jerk reactions. Especially if those administering justice have reactions anywhere like mine!

I think most criminals of that nature have a physiological problem and that it's a sad reality of nature that we're just not willing to come to grips with. I'm not excusing the behavior, but I have a hard time frothing at the mouth and calling for the death of all rapists when many do have a mental illness - and I've experienced a rape in my own family. My take on prison is that its only purpose is to protect society from the individual, and the individual from society. It shouldn't be a slaughterhouse.

Hopefully in the future we'll be able to target and cure their illnesses instead of refuse to direct money into the field out of fear for the taboo and "it will never be cured" nonsense.

Personally I don't agree with the notion that rape is worse than murder. I've been told by raped victims it is (for obvious reasons), but hey - you never get to hear the dead guy's take.

Well, yeah, typically sex offenders have some psychological problem (another reason I am opposed to the death penalty for them). Certainly some form of psychological examination is in order for anyone guilty of a sex crime. However, having a psychological problem does not excuse the commission of a sex crime, of which the emotional effects on the victim are life-long. Sex offenders should expect and receive tough sentences for their crimes (depending on the severity, I favor up to life-imprisonment), though I don't believe in a death sentence.

Sometimes I think our justice system is a joke in dealing with criminals. Sometimes it seems we put more effort into locking up and keeping out of society drug dealers/users than locking up sex offenders, who do way more to damage society. A pedophile I unfortunately encountered in my youth is a case in point. He has been in trouble for messing with other people's kids and has been caught with child pornography. If he's ever been in jail for any of this, it hasn't been for a long period, he's received no psychological examination of which I am aware, only is not allowed to use computers anymore, and is free to roam the streets to sexually abuse the next child. This is too lackadaisical a punishment for a sex offender. He's holding down a job and has kept the majority of his freedom intact while I and the other victims continue to sort out what happened to us and struggle with the emotial results of the abuse. Now, I don't think he should be killed for what he's done, but if someone were to kill him, I'm sorry, but I'd feel absolutely no pity. When it comes to being victimized by sex crime and murder and which is worse, I'll have to disagree. Yeah, the one guy may be dead, but he's not the one going through the rest of the years of his life sorting out what happened to him and dealing with any insecurities or "quirks" it's developed in him. Seems the dead guy gets the easy way out.

Anyone that rapes a child should be put to death. If there is a God then let him deal with this person immediately. If there isn't a God then let's clean up this world of all these deviates. At least a murder's victim pain ends when he stops breathing. If death is the penalty for raping a child and it is law, less children will be harmed and perverts will think twice before they follow through with their sick plans.
