Hospitality: Teachings & Personal Examples\ Pre-Jalasa Salana 2015 UK \ Good Governance\Two Pious

DawudTalut

Peace be upon you.
Peace be on you…Hazrat Khalifatul Messiah V (may Allah be his Helper) explained how by the grace of Allah the Exalted the volunteer’s of Jama'at Ahmadiyya UK are selflessly working hard on a farmland to make the arrangements of Jalsa Salana UK [annual international gathering for spiritual and moral training: 21-23 August]. During the Jalsa thousands of other volunteers will join them to serve the guests and to make the operations of Jalsa Salana run smoothly. Later, a lot of time is required to wrap up the entire setup. By the grace of Allah, Bai'at of the Hazrat Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) is the driving force of these unique passions.

Holy Quran mentions the hospitality of Hazrat Ibrahim (on whom be peace) and security concerns of Hazrat Lut (on whom be peace) for their guests.

Holy Prophet’s (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) wife Hazrat Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her) mentioned his extraordinary qualities when he felt perturbed after getting first revelation. Among these qualities was his (s.a.w.) superlative quality of hospitality. Latter he taught these qualities to his Companions (may Allah be pleased with them).

““It was the practice of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) that when a lot of guests came he divided them among his Companions and took some guests for himself. A Companion narrates that he was once among the guests the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) allocated himself. He took the guests home and asked Hazrat 'Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) if there was anything to serve them. She said there was a little something which she had put away for the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) to break his fast. He asked her to serve the food. The Holy Prophet tasted a little of the food and then gave it to his guests. They ate without looking and were satiated. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) then asked if there was anything to drink. Hazrat 'Aishah served a beverage which the Prophet first tasted and then offered to his guests who were again satiated. The reason the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) first tasted the food and drink himself must have been to say a prayer to bless the food so that it would be enough for all to eat. There are dozens of other accounts of the Holy Prophet blessing food with prayer.””

He (s.a.w.) tolerated weakness of guests….His (s.a.w) teaching helped Companions (r.a.) to present high examples too. Once a couple took a guest of Holy Prophet (s.a.w.) to home. His wife said food was enough only for children…. The couple made hungry children sleep. When guest began to eat they turned the lamp off and pretended as if they were eating too. Allah informed Holy Prophet (s.a.w.) about it and was pleased.

Holy Prophet (s.a.w.) said:

A person who believes in Allah and the Day of Judgment should say something good or else stay quiet. A person who believes in Allah and the Day of Judgment should respect his neighbour. A person who believes in Allah and the Day of Judgment should honour his guest.

Holy Prophet (s.a.w.) used to ask guests about hospitality offered. Once, upon such an inquiry, a guest reported that they were given soft bed, fine food and knowledge of Book and Practice of Prophet s.a.w.

Thus the people who will host guests of Jalsa Salana in homes and the volunteers who shall take care of non-Ahmadiyya guest should keep these teachings in mind.

Hazrat Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) would treat his guests in best possible way:

““A guest visiting Qadian who had taken Bai'at and had a relationship of being a follower of the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) was massaging his feet out of reverence. Just then a Hindu knocked on the door. The companion got up to answer the knock but the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) hastily got there first. He said the companion was a guest and the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) has said that guests should be honoured.

Here, we observe two aspects. He had allowed the companion to massage his feet owing to him being a follower but in his capacity as a guest the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) promptly extended respect to him by answering the door himself and also greeted the person who had come.

Once an Ahmadi guest travelled to Qadian during winter months to meet the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace). It had been raining and he arrived in the evening. He had his evening meal and went to sleep. There was a knock on his door quite late in the night. He was astonished to see the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) on the doorstep holding a glass of warm milk in one hand and a lantern in the other. He said some milk had come by so he thought of offering it to his guest who was probably used to drinking milk. The guest was indeed moved to tears to see one commissioned by God serving him!””

Hazrat Promised Messiah (a.s.) used to consider dietary preferences of guests from various areas in his Langar [free kitchen]. The practice continues as much as possible now….. Hospitality department needs to very careful. No one should have any complaint in any shape or form…… Management of Langar, serving food, storage and supply, car parking and shuttle services and transportations of elderly and disabled are also part of Hospitality department…..80% or more services at Jalsa are hospitality related.

Hazrat Khalifatul Messiah (a.t.) prayed (as the Friday sermon was on 14 th August, independence day of for Pakistan) that may Allah protect it against self-centered leaders and clergy; may they run it with fear of Allah.. Ahmadis played vital role in its making yet they face barbarity.
