Realistically no war of defense, liberation, or offense could ever result in no civilian deaths.
No, I realize war can have its place in defense, but right and wrong are right and wrong. So war or any violence should always be the last resort when everything is breaking down and you're in the position to defend yourself. The decision to go to war should be treated with the upmost gravity and militaries should be highly trained to avoid civilian losses. I actually wouldn't mind if we went back to how the ancients would often do it - the king or chief would be the first into battle. Might make our elderly business suit wearing "leaders" think twice about sending working class young people off to kill and be killed, as cannon fodder.

There are 2 different questions being asked here in my opinion.

1. Was killing civilians justified?
2. Was the murder of civilians justified.?
