No politics, please. This is a thread celebrating Israel.

Today is Yom Ha'atzmaut, Israeli Independence Day. Israel is now 75 years old!

The festivities start on the night before with a national ceremony in Jerusalem which includes twelve people from all walks of life who have contributed Israeli society lighting torches celebrating the country. Religious people hold special festive prayers, and then there are dances and concerts and fireworks.
During the day (today) many people go on hikes and trips around Israel, as a chance to get to know the land. The International Tanach Contest is also held during the day, as well as a presidential ceremony for 120 outstanding IDF soldiers. Elite fighter jets also fly around the country performing an air show. This year, to commemorate its 75th year, jets from foreign militaries will also join the Israeli planes.
Both at night and during the day, many people hold barbecues.
