Happiness

Geoff-Allen

Resident megalomaniac
"Happiness" by Matthieu Ricard

I love this book and have read it several times!

Matthieu Ricard is an interesting character. He is French and 40 years ago had a very promising career as a scientist. However, he decided to give it all up to go and live in the Himalayas and train as a Buddhist monk.

He says he has never regretted his decision.

The book claims that happiness is a skill. Like any skill in life, you get better at it the more you practice it.

Ricard has included many practical exercises to help you train your brain.

Hard 2 pick out just one quote ...

We must be capable of loving all people, unconditionally. Is it asking too much to love an enemy? It may seem like an impossible undertaking, but it is based on a very simple observation: all beings without exception wish to avoid suffering and to know happiness. Genuinely altruistic love is the desire for that wish to be granted.

What a beautiful way of thinking...
