EV's lithium-ion batteries

Graphite has not been produced in the U.S. since the 1950s. Looks like imports will be on the rise for more EV's.

"Graphite is the most commonly used to serve as the anode material in lithium-ion battery manufacturing due to its relatively low-cost and its energy density. Graphite has great conductive properties and for the most part is readily available."

Some sources are saying that metal resources (such as Nickel) to make EV's are going to become very scarce and that we'd better find an alternative to Lithium batteries, soon. Right now an EV is a giant lithium battery with a motor strapped to it, plus some exotic metals for various parts and alloys.

UPDATE: Knotty nickel supply chain highly exposed to new price shocks

Plus......EV prices will keep rising

"According to Benchmark Mineral Intelligence (BMI)1, the price of the lithium-rich raw material spodumene rose by nearly 480% between January 2021 and January 2022. In January, for example, it jumped 45.5% to $2,400 per ton, up from $1,650 in December."

Of course. It's intended for rigged insider trading and general profiteering for the privileged.

You think it's mandated for the benefit of the environment?

Li-batteries should be replaced in a few years with much better new tech that is in late stage R&D. The rapid development of battery tech reminds me of the early days of PCs and cellphones.
Then along comes planned obsolescence......

Sealing the batteries inside so you cannot replace the batteries anymore but the whole entire phone.

I predict sealed batteries in evs in the future where you junk the entire car and have to buy a new one.

Well it's a good thing oil is cheap as dirt, and will never run out because dinosaurs are still dying and making more as we speak.

Does everything go over your head?
The others posters had intelligible posts.

@sun rise for realizing we need to and are advancing with batteries.

@Brickjectivity for realizing even other metals will also run short and their prices will jump.

@Twilight Hue for realizing some of it is only about profits

Then you post this silly post SMH.

so in 10 or twenty years we'll be running out of oil and lithium and we'll only ne able to have wind powered cars

The electric car has been around for 150 years. We should have been building on them instead of just now wanting to jump in head first and push them in just a few years.

"Around 1832, Robert Anderson develops the first crude electric vehicle, but it isn't until the 1870s or later that electric cars become practical.

When Was the First Electric Car Made?
