Confucius + Democracy

Lunatic from birth
I just finished David Hinton's translation of The Analects, and I was struck by the fact that Confucius's authoritarianism seems to be only skin deep. In this regard, I wrote an essay arguing that Confucian ideals could be easily applied to build an open, democratic, non-hierarchical society, and I was hoping to be party to your thoughts.
