Can the enormous ULCC 'Grace 1' escape the Americans?

A few week's ago the Gtrace 1, an enormous ultra large crude carrier owned by Iran entered Gibraltar's waters and anchored to take on 'spares and repairs'.

The US government asked the Brit government to arrest Grace 1 because it believed that she was carrying a cargo of crude oil to a Syrian refinery. For some reason the Brits sent in the Royal Marines to arrest Grace 1.

Soon after this Iran seized a Stena-Line Brit tanker passing through the Straights of Hormuz and arrested her, taking her North in to Iranian waters.

Soon after this I watched President Trump on a BBC Television interview mention something about we Brits would need to look after our own shipping, but that maybe a convoy system could be arranged. Well..... that got me to wondering just how long we would hold Grace 1, and whether we would ever get involved in foreign ships for the US government in the immediate future. And how could Britain hope to secure the release of the Stena Line tanker held in Iran?

A couple of days ago the Attorney General of Gibraltar decided that Grace 1 was a good ship, an honest ship, a decent ship, with no bad intentions at all, and released her to sail where she would. At this the US government made it clear that it would arrest the Grace 1 as soon as possible!

And so, at this time, the Grace 1 is remaining in Gibraltar while she carries out that 'spares and repairs' programme. Of course! And at this time her crew are preparing her for the race of her life!

She is already changing her name to Adrian Darya 1, and because journalists have shouted this fact to the world already I wouild expect that she will be changing it again. And one dark night, in foul weather and with storms blowing, she will need to take her IMPOSSIBLE chance, for she is one of biggest ships in the World and rather hard to hide in this age of satellite observation et al.

I wonder if her 'run' could be as exciting as little HMS Amethyst's out of the Yangtse River when Chairman Mao tried to detain her? Or must she give up, or be self-destructed like the Graf Spey in the River Plate?

And that, folks, is where the situation is not interesting, or exciting, or just newsworthy, because the Indian skipper has already requested a new Iranian crew so that his can be released from service on the Grace1 and any new Iranian crew could very well be hot blooded future national heroes.

If cornered by any offensive forces, could the Grace 1 be scuttled? Could she become a rather large incendiary bomb?

Should the US back off and leave Grace 1 to sail clear? I don't think this will end well.

America should Go home and not be meddling in the Middle east at all. And especially not play Police in the international sea around Iran and Syria.
America GO HOME....

Well said, Amanki! :)
Sadly, the President of the United States has (singly) broken treaties with Iran, and clearly seeks to escalate the contentions with it.
And now the situation is building.... and building....

I hope that the Grace 1 will somehow get free and clear, but she is so huge! The crew will need motor scooters to travel up or down her decks! She cannot hide...... but if, somehow, she does, it will make the most marvelous film!

But if she does get cornered, who knows what an Iranian crew might do with her? Who knows what any American warship might be ordered to do to her?

Update, Folks!
Seeing as how the membership is frozen in anticipation about whether or not the enormous ULCC Grace 1 (her original name until last week) can escape American arrest, she has altered course away from her promised destination in Turkey and is sailing Westwards, bound for ..... ????

Here is a report:-
An Iranian-flagged oil tanker that has been pursued by the United States in the Mediterranean Sea for weeks appeared to have changed course away from its destination in Turkey.

The Adrian Darya 1, formerly known as Grace 1, had listed its destination in its Automatic Identification System (AIS) as Mersin, Turkey, but data from the ship-tracking website MarineTraffic on August 29 showed that as the vessel was traveling between Turkey and Cyprus it turned around and headed back in a western direction.

Mersin is a port city in southern Turkey with an oil terminal. It is about 200 kilometers northwest of a refinery in Baniyas, Syria, where the Adrian Darya 1 was reported to have been heading before being seized off Gibraltar in early July.

The United States has issued a warrant to seize the tanker on the grounds that it had links to the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), which it designates as a terrorist organization.

The Adrian Darya 1, which is carrying Iranian crude worth some $130 million, was first detained off Gibraltar on July 4 on suspicion it was shipping oil to Syria in violation of European Union sanctions.

It was allowed to leave the British territory on August 19 after giving assurances that it would not head to Syria.

Another exciting update you happy readers! :D

Thre Beeb reports that the United States has offered to pay the captain of the Grace 1 (now renamed) several million dollars if he would sail the huge super tanker to any waters where the USA could arrest it.

So it's still running! Amazing! (well, to this lone reader.... :p)

US offered millions to Iranian tanker captain
Iran tanker: US offers captain millions to hand over ship
The US state department has confirmed it offered millions of dollars to the captain of an Iranian oil tanker which is at the centre of a diplomatic row.
Brian Hook, head of the department's Iran Action Group, emailed the captain of the Adrian Darya 1 about sailing it somewhere the US could seize it.
----------------------------------------------
What did the emails say?
According to the Financial Times, Mr Hook sent an email to the Indian captain of the Adrian Darya 1, Akhilesh Kumar, before it imposed sanctions on the ship.
"I am writing with good news," the email read. The Trump administration was willing to pay the captain several million dollars to take the ship somewhere it could be seized by US authorities.
The emails reportedly carried a state department phone number to make sure the captain - who took over the ship after it was impounded - did not think they were fake.

Update, Folks
The renamed ULCC, previously the Grace 1 has been spotted a couple of miles off the Syrian coastline.

If she has connected to offshore pumps and is discharging her cargo..... 'IF' ......... then President Trump will be most displeased.

Let's wait for further news ........ but this could escalate ...........

Update, folks!
Iran is reported to have claimed that it has sold this tankers' entire cargo of crude oil to Syria.

This is sure to end in loud pops and bangs at some point in time, methinks.

And yet, just now, and all through this whole series of incidents............ nothing.
