Sad news, the Carolina Reaper is no longer the world's hottest pepper. The man that bred that particular pepper has been up to his old tricks and has a new one. Pepper X. It is significantly hotter than the Reaper:
"Ed Currie, the South Carolina hot pepper expert who crossbred and grew the Carolina Reaper that’s hotter than most pepper sprays police use to subdue unruly criminals, has broken his own world record with a pepper that’s three times hotter."
Spoiler alert, if you keep reading it is not even two times hotter. But it is hotter than bear spray. He did not protect his financial interests with the Carolina Reaper. He is not repeating that mistake. Hopefully this brings him a ton of money.
