'It's their call': Australia regulator dares Facebook to block news content

I think they are correct to require that local media be payed. Even though it sounds difficult for fb and google, I think that this needs to happen. We need for journalists to have jobs.

By the way would this be more fun in political debates? If looks like it then somebody can open a thread in political debates. It won't hurt my feelings.

OMG, I could so live without Facebook or Google. I think them Australians would be much better off without either.

I think if the Aussies want to shut themselves off from easy access to news, then it's on them.

Hmmm, I don't know if I could.

Without Facebook, how would I ever know when it's the birthday of somebody I only vaguely know and don't particularly like?

How would I find out that somebody I went to school with grew up to be the kind of person who shares motivational pictures?

How, I ask you, would I be able to experience the existential dread of receiving a message from somebody who knows who I am despite me having no recollection of them whatsoever?

I'm a bit unclear on what the law means, but i think we should be allowed to share news on Facebook provided we link it back to the news article.

It’s Facebook, ffs.
You’d be more likely to get some whacky conspiracy nonsense than legitimate news. Hell most news outlets have free downloadable apps these days.
