The Five-Star Movement has come out as the top individual party in Italy's election on Sunday, while the anti-immigration Lega Nord has also outperformed expectations. RAI exit poll predicted populists-nationalists winners at 30.5 percent for the Eurosceptic, anti-corruption Five Star Movement, and pegged Lega on a par with its coalition partner, the Silvio Berluconi-led Forza Italia, at 14.5 percent. The ruling socialist Democratic Party was predicted to gain 22 percent of the vote.

Menwhile in the US, the populist-nationalist President Trump maintains a 49% approval rating, higher than Obama held at this time in the administration, and Trump's populist tough tariff negotiations and agenda is increasing his popularity in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Ohio as populism continues to rise in the West, Europe, India and the USA.
