Which probably means you don't remember the "98% IBM compatible" clones in the early days of the PC. They'd run normally most of the time... until they hit some instruction they couldn't handle, and then they'd just freeze or go nuts. Great fun.
But then, as you pointed out, I'm really really really old. Our TRS-80 didn't even come with a disk drive when we got it - it used cassettes.

I had the MSX with casettes.. Made a terrible fax noise for about 5 minutes per game. Untill after a year I discovered a small switch to mute the sound
