A question for a computer techie

I have a modem, and a wired/wireless router.

When I switch my computers off (I have two running most of the day), the router lights are still lit up (ie sockets 1and 2); however, if I put the computers on stadby (and they then go into hibernation) - the lights on the router go out.

Now, I may be completely wrong, but I am assuming that in hibernation, the router can't "see" the computers, and I am therefore "safer" than if I shut the computers down...........

Anyone know why, or understand ?

I don't know why it does that, but if the computers are turned off, thier is no way for an attack to occur, or a virus to spread. It can still happen while under hibernation.
