    The Laws of Thought

Because some people argue that all religions are equally true, and it is an argument that this can't be so.

Christians and Jews Who Sanction Homosexual Sex

Irrelevant. We deny them their full sexual fulfillment. Thus the hypocricy. And by the way, you go back 5000 years ago to the Levant, and child sex was practiced. Even as recently as Greek civilization, sex with pubescent BOYS was considered the IDEAL. I'm not trying to say we should accept...

    The Laws of Thought

If supreme god is not the One God, but A god that is supreme, then there are many gods and one is supreme is your a=a. If religion A makes a claim about thunder god mog, and religion B makes a claim about fertility god lana, the claims can both be true if your a=a is that there are many gods...

    Religion is hardwired

I'm not really pushing a point in this thread. I'm looking for various positions so I can reflect upon them. My starting point is that given the universality of religion, it must be innate. But like all my thoughts, it's redflagged for the possibility of being wrong. I've been wrong before...

    Religion is hardwired

Did you read the article? I don't think it gave the age at which you are predisposed. For all I know, there could be be a tiered development. Cultures everywhere have some kind of concept of the divine, whether it is god, gods, animism/mana, the ancestors, tao, etc. I believe there is...

Christians and Jews Who Sanction Homosexual Sex

We are not hamsters. We realize there are times to forego our animal instincts for the better good, whether for ourselves, for another, or for the community. For example, the full sexual expression of the pedophile would harm little children. We expect that the pedophile must live a life of...

    is it weird

Do you think THIS universe has always existed despite scientific proof to the contrary? Or do you think this god exists in more than one universe? Or what?

What truths do all religions have in common?

Thank you for your reply. I find our conversation very educational. It does seem like a less mature approach, and perhaps also less intelligent, but then again I can't really say -- there are no real studies on the subject. By dark triad, I'm referring to the three elements of sociopathy...

    Religion is hardwired

No. I searched a while for the actual Oxford paper, but unfortunately it is not published online. Drat! You can find individual studies that seem to be on the topic, and I do wonder if these are part of the group of studies included in the Oxford mega study.

    Religion is hardwired

I think that for many things that are hardwired, they come at a certain maturational age. For example, we do not speak or walk at birth. We are not reading ready until around age 5-8 depending on the child. We go through puberty much later. We move from the concrete stage to the formal...

    The Laws of Thought

The laws of thought are the basic underlying principles of thinking that we all share. The Law of Identity: something is what it is, and isn't what it isn't. A cat is a cat, and things that aren't cats, aren't cats. The Law of Non-contradiction: Something can't be and not be at the same...

    Religion is hardwired

"We tend to see purpose in the world. We tend to see agency. We think something is there even if you can't see it. All that tends to build up a religious way of thinking." Roger Tiggs Well folks, it looks like the scientific research is in. Two researchers at Oxford University compiled over...

How does your MBTI type or Personality effect your spirituality?

The MBTI is not Pop psychology. I was typed going to a professional PhD in Psychology for premarital counseling. Not only was it the first time in my life that I was given a description that actually captured my essence, but it really did help me understand my fiance.

How does your MBTI type or Personality effect your spirituality?

@Rival May I ask, did you think I was Messianic because you read one of my roommate's posts, or because you were sent a PM about me? Just curious if gossip is going around.

How does your MBTI type or Personality effect your spirituality?

Oh, confession time. I have contacted the forum about this in fact. My roommate opened this account and got bored with it, because there is no activity on the MJ forum. I used it to lurk, and gave into the temptation to post. She let me use it, and I changed the religion to "ask me." Then I...

    is it weird

Science has proven the universe had a beginning, and Luis said this god was part of the universe. As a Noahide, you are of course a true monotheist. What do you think of the Jewish teaching that all of creation contains the Divine spark?

Wonderful! I'm an observnant Jew, but I'm really into comparative religion, so it makes me an odd one.

Muhammad and the Bible Proofs, an Islamic quandary

The Historicist view only considers the 5th and 6th trumpets to be the rise of Islam. It's not considered a nice thing. It's my roommate who is heavy into this book. I've just kind of glossed over it.
