Advaita: How does Nirguna Brahman transforms into Saguna Brahman?

Hello. You said above Nirguna is avyakta. It sure is, but according to Swami ChidbhavaNanda the word avyakta is applied to MulaPrakriti where the universe remain in a dormant seed form, and the word vyakta applied to this physical universe. He says in his advaita gita commentary that avyakta and...

Advaita: How does Nirguna Brahman transforms into Saguna Brahman?

We all know that it's Saguna Brahman that does the job of creation but I would like to know, how Nirguna Brahman becomes Saguna Brahman in the first place. I know you guys would probably say that when Nirguna's reflection falls on maya, it becomes Saguna and so on, but such an explanation never...

Two Birds on a Tree / Reflection Theory

Thanks ajay0 for the advice ... and thanks to atanu, for suggesting me those videos. So as per Advaita, the Subtle body IS the Jivatman. Okay cool. I went through the first video (of Swami Tadatmananda). Here he clearly explaines that subtlebody/jivatman moves or transmigrates ... Later in his...

Two Birds on a Tree / Reflection Theory

Yeah i too think that one should discuss these things with a man well versed in this philosophy, but as of yet, i haven't found such a man. So i guess for the time being, we'll have to continue this discussion here ;) I do know that it's the lower bird or causal/subtle body also kmown as soul...

Two Birds on a Tree / Reflection Theory

Yeah by Antahkarana i meant the whole psychological process (manas, buddhi, chitta, ahamkara). According to Vedanta darshana, antahkarana, is not part of the physical brain. It is the entire inner subtle body. Since we are in the hindu religious forum, i'll only speak about what religious...

Two Birds on a Tree / Reflection Theory

Here's an youtube video on the analogy of Two Birds, by Swami Sarvapriyananda (an advaitin monk). Here, he compares the tree with our physical body, and the two birds as our atmans. He says that there's actually one bird/atman within us and not two as the dualists claim. By using the two bird...

Advaita : Does each of us has a causal body within us?

@Aup, If you go through Chidbhananda's Gita translation of ch13 v12 (it's a translation from an advaitic point of view) , you would find him saying that 'sat' is being or existence or coming into manifestation (which is the manifested universe) ... whereas 'asat' is avyakta the unmanifested...

Advaita : Does each of us has a causal body within us?

Causal Body is ignorance as per Advaita. Here's an article i came across that was posted on an advaita website. Here's the link- Article no. 1. There it's mentioned that causal body does not reside within us and yet it has been called a body by Shankaracharya, because as per Shankara, a body is...

Does the individual soul actually feel pleasure or pain?

Hey George, thanks for the information and sorry for the late reply. I was a lil' preoccupied lately. So the soul is not Atman as per Advaita? I always thought that the soul is the Atman, but in your post you've said that it's the causal body. I'm a bit confused here. Also ajay0, said in his...

Who would win the debate between Sri Sankara and Sri Madhvacharya? - Hindus Only

Hello again Onkarmantra, a certain question popped up in my mind while going thru this above Gita verse, where the soul has been explained as the witness and also the experiencer of bondage. You explained above, that even though Brahman resides in prakriti, it is not being controlled by Prakriti...

Does the individual soul actually feel pleasure or pain?

In Gita ch.13 v23 , the Lord says that the Supreme Purusha in this body is the upadrista (observer) , the anumanta (permitter) , bharta (supporter) and bhokta (the experiencer / the one who experiences). Swami Chidbhananda, in his Gita commentary, explained the bhokta part by saying that the...

Vedanta Philosophy: Where exactly are our samskaras stored?

Thanks Vinayaka. @Aup, i was expecting mostly a non-scientific explanation. But thanks anyway.

Vedanta Philosophy: Where exactly are our samskaras stored?

Do you know what gives rise to the latent samskaras? Some say it's our vasanas or desires that makes the latent samskaras to manifest. But what about if there's no desire in the first place and all of a sudden a random thought from our subconsciousness, flashes in our conscious mind. Like for...

    Thanks Shiv and Aup. :)

Advaita : Did Brahman split into multiple souls?

Thanks. I'm not much into meditation but since advaita is all about experiential knowledge rather than scriptural, i guess i might do it in the future, i.e. if it suits me or if i am ready for it. But for now i only wish to gain bookish knowledge. Could you suggest me some books on Advaita, like...

Vedanta Philosophy: Where exactly are our samskaras stored?

As per the vedanata school of philosophy, chitta or the subconscious mind is the store house of all samskaras or impressions. Now in an advaita article, it was mentioned that it's the causal body where all our samskaras and vasanas are stored in seed form. Is this causal body / karana sharira...

Advaita : Did Brahman split into multiple souls?

So how do you think the world came into existence or being manifested? Is it Mula-Prakriti aka Maya, that manifested everything? Please do explain.

Advaita : Did Brahman split into multiple souls?

The Brahman you follow or believe in (is that Brahman part of Advaita?) ... In other words are you a follower of Advaita? Just curious.

Advaita : Did Brahman split into multiple souls?

By destruction / decomposition i meant they break down into the pancha mahabhutas. Our body which is made of flesh and bones, after death, it disintegrates or breaks down into the five great elements. And even these five elements, during maha pralaya or the great cosmic dissolution (i.e. after...

Advaita : Did Brahman split into multiple souls?

Sure why not ... It (Brahman) includes even those things that lacks consciousness, sat-chit-ananda and are prone to decomposition and destruction. If you like to hold on to that particular aspect of Brahman, which is maya, then so be it.
