What was last movie you watched?

I finally saw Goodfellas (and Casino later in the week while I was at it). I would say Goodfellas is a bit better, the acting is somewhat uneven in both but the main characters are stronger in Goodfellas. Joe Pesce's high-pitched voice in Casino was a bit over the top and the character...

OMG, It should be illegal for a married woman to keep her last name.

I've come to realize that the US is quite conservative but obviously where you poll will affect the results. My own opinion is that people should be able to do what they want, another law forcing someone to do something is no good. I would not expect her to change her name unless she really...

The "What are you listening to?" thread- Part 4

Listening to the debut album from 2000 by English band The Clientele the past couple weeks. It's described as the calm sound of a rainy day. They sound a bit Beatles-esque as well imo but less pop:

What was last movie you watched?

Manchester By The Sea (2016) Finished seeing this today, one of the best movies I've seen from the past few years. It's subject matter is sad and it is emotional but it was very pleasant and peaceful to watch for me. I was teary-eyed for at least a third of it but in a good way. Casey Affleck...

    What's a good movie?

What I started doing a few years ago is watching films in 30-40 minute chunks. I do prefer watching the whole thing at once and I still do that once in a while but the reason I started watching only 30-40 mins a day was because of studying, I couldn't watch entire films because of school but I...

    Can you 'beat' depression?

Clinical depression is from hormonal imbalances for most people, you can't just change your body's hormone levels at will so no you can't beat it. There's a reason why the medication they prescribe for it acts on dopamine or serotonin receptors. It isn't perfectly studied and we still don't know...

    An easy homemade salsa recipe

I add it to give it some spiciness along with cayenne powder. I like your cheat salsa as someone who prefers short-cuts with cooking but I wanted to give roasting the veggies a try as that adds some taste. I'm never going near Habenero peppers though. I've had my hands burn for hours multiple...

Acid Reflux & GERD: New research!

Wait, lack of stomach acid production causing decreased LES tone? I wasn't aware of this at all, never read it in any textbook. It's not that I don't believe you about that part but where's that from, I'd be interested in learning about that. Also there is a good reason they prescribe antacids...

    An easy homemade salsa recipe

I don't get salsa enough to consider making it all the time at home to save money but I thought it's worth a shot to see how it turns out. Pretty simple, only thing I'd change is to use less veggies so there's more space between them on the pan so that they can roast properly (I use less actual...

    Top 5 - 10 movies of 2016?

I don't know if this is gonna be in my top 5 but I think I'm watching one that's a bit underrated in terms of having poor-average critic/fan reviews but being fun to watch. Woody Allen's Cafe Society.....this is a gorgeous film. The colours are very vibrant, he's using a bit of Wes Anderson's...

Trying to find an old friend on here (Whereismynotecard)

Fair enough :( Is there any way that you as an admin can possibly send an e-mail asking her to check her messages or that someone is attempting to contact her on here? I'd really appreciate it.

What's the best way to see a city without going there?

Just wondering what the best way is to view how a city is like and I don't just mean the tourist attractions. If I google Krakow or Melbourne or Bangalore or Edmonton or whatever then I'll just get images of buildings/downtowns/tourist attractions. I'd love to be able to see them at a street...

Anyone Else Here Is Cutting/Has Cut Down on Coffee?

Just a heads up that dark roast generally has less caffeine than light roast (I know that's counter-intuitive). If you want some caffeine but just less of it then maybe switch to dark, though I personally find the taste to be too bitter.

The Best Movies on Spiritual Themes?

I'd say three worth checking out are: Inherit The Wind (60s classic set in the 20s where a man is put on trial for teaching evolution in his class room in the South) Contact (90s sci-fi that debates religion v atheism and is very fair) Winter Light (a priest has an existential crisis, it's a...

    The Vegetarian Meals Thread

I'm not a vegetarian but I found a really delicious straightforward recipe for a Vegetarian African Peanut Sweet Potato Stew/Soup that I like. A few things I'd change about this would be to double each ingredient because it doesn't make enough imo, the water really starts to evaporate. I'd also...

What was last movie you watched?

^^ I actually plan to start watching Ran next week. Anyways, I'm catching up on a few Kubrick movies and last one I finished was Barry Lyndon. As people say, every frame in this movie feels like a beautiful painting, its set designs were very elegant. It's a bit of a biopic in structure and in...

Classic Movies (and where to watch?)

In terms of where to watch them, there's a good chunk of them for free on Youtube, quite a few highly regarded one like Rififi, L'Eclisse, 8 1/2, Tarkovsky's The Mirror and Stalker, Godard's Breathless, Orson Welles' The Stranger, Bergman's Wild Strawberries and The Virgin Spring, and a tonne of...

Trying to find an old friend on here (Whereismynotecard)

I had a really nice friend on another site called Flixster several years ago and noticed that they had a profile here. Anyways, that friend hasn't posted on here since 2015 and I don't have any other contact info, Flixster's forums have gone down so I can't contact via that site. If an admin or...
