"One of Us" by Joan Osborne
What if God was one of us?
Just a slob like one of us
Just a stranger on the bus
Tryin' to make his way home?
If God had a face what would it look like?
And would you want to see, if seeing meant
That you would have to believe in things like heaven
And in...
Another interesting idea to consider is that perhaps God might send people to Hell so that they can learn, and then let theme into heaven later. IDK...
HELL to the NO!
I don't want fundamentalist Christians* hunting me down and being violent towards me. We don't keep track of them!
*Not that all Christians are violent by nature; they're not. But some are.
The founding fathers of the US wrote into their constitution:
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion..."
They absolutely meant for the separation of church and state. This *is not* a Christian nation and never has been. Most of the founding fathers were deists...
I agree
I have many religious friends who I consider to be well-versed and perfectly intelligent. I would never demean their intelligence for being religious, though certain beliefs and practices could make me question their reasoning--blind faith, discrimination of homosexuals, disbelief...
Your definition is invalid because it is way too broad. According to you, socialism (Any of various economic and political philosophies that support social equality, collective decision-making, distribution of income based on contribution and public ownership of productive capital and natural...
Your method of "knowing God" may be via prayer, but his may not. Some people choose to realize God through meditation, chants, or even just doing good deeds. :)
In other news, here's a fascinating article on the FLDS viewpoint on polygyny. Would love some comments on it (NO I didn't write it.)
FireOftheCovenant happens to be a reliable source by himself. Look at his fruball count. There's a reason some people have a reputation like that. ;)
This guy actually knows what he's talking about--this is well documented history in Mormonism. Many sources will easily back him up. :)
As for...
First off, I would say that feelings towards homosexuals is a really individual thing. It's not an organized hate-con that people throw every year just because they can.
Most of the political action against homosexuality I've lived to see (Prop. 8 in California, battle over gay marriage in...
Try looking into Shintoism. It's not a perfect match, but it features many of the ideas you mentioned. Unitarian Universalism is another half-match.
Sorry I can't help you more!
I agree that it's rather pathetic to join the LDS church as an atheist *just* to get an insider's look at everything, but I must say that I feel very sympathetic towards closeted Mormons who have become atheist but can't tell anybody about it.
People will come to atheism if they are ready. I've always hated the idea of proselytizing in any religion, and I think being really militant about everything will just make you look bad.
+1 for being respectfully tolerant.
I feel like piracy, though not really ethical, isn't always wrong. I think it exists to balance out the corruption in big companies with monopolies and unfair trade restrictions. I know many people who look very thoroughly for other ways to get a hold of music and software legally and only turn...
Well, I don't think anybody is really solid one way or the other. I believe that we each have great potential to be good or evil, and that we often end up using our agency both ways. I'm much less concerned with being a "good person" than I am with being a better person every day.

Wayward Teen's Guide to Being a Christian:
Step 1) Acknowledge the existence of Jesus Christ.
Step 2) Acknowledge the principles and values taught by Christ.
Step 3) Live by them, and trust that God will take care of the rest.
