Hello.
I am diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. My schizophrenia started developing before I was a teenager, younger than most schizos. It took me up to last year to convince myself to get professional medical help. Now that I’ve been a medicated and treated schizophrenia for over a year, I have some thoughts.
Getting professional help was the best choice I’ve made in my life. One percent of the population is schizophrenic, which is rather large I think. Most schizophrenics take up to a decade to seek professional help, such as me. Those early stages of schizophrenia are very dangerous however, suicide risk is high. Ten percent of schizos off themselves, forty percent try. When I didn’t have professional help, I attempted suicide. I know a couple hundred people will read this thread. Perhaps the one reading this is a schizophrenic who is wary of professional help. I understand the feeling, I was there. But I beckon you to seek help. It will help you a lot.
Schizophrenics tend to live 15-20 years less than average. I’m gonna die young, I know this. There are several reasons why schizos die early. 80% are smokers, which is the highest percentage out of mental illnesses. They can’t take care of themselves physically sometimes. I know I can’t keep a healthy diet I haven’t drank water in a month lol.
People would start calling me crazy within a week of knowing me, such as coworkers, before I was medicated. I was deeply hurt and didn’t know how they could tell. That doesn’t happen anymore.
There are things I miss about being unmedicated though.
I would like to say more but I must go to work now.
