I was without electricity after the recent hurricane in Florida and that was nuts. I could live without electricity if I had things to do, people to talk to, and community but being at home with nothing was so bad. Modern life takes place on a computer so no electricity is insane to live with unless you go off the grid.

You mean just shutting off the electricity in the house? I don't think so. That means no fridge, no freezer, no stove/oven, no way to charge the cell phone and laptop unless I'm in my car or elsewhere, no heat for this upcoming winter... yeah, i'd be screwed.

I just went fourteen hours without electric. What's the difference?

Seriously I could but I would not enjoy it. I would need just a little prep time to get my propane grill working and then I would have to do all of my cooking outside which is not fun in the rain. I could use it to heat water for bathing too, Though I love my daily hot showers. Could I do it? Of course. Would I hate it? Almost certainly.

Id only have to do it in bad weather cause my house is solar powered but even then probably not or with great difficulty.

I mean, if I could watch YouTube I could watch Bear Gryllis teach me how to survive without electricity but short of that I'd be done for.

Yes. Been there before. Though it's a lot easier when you're on property than in an apartment. No fireplace, no non-electric cook top. No way to boil water except in small kettles. Less robust insulation.

But I could if I needed to.

IMO if we had to live like they did 150 years ago over half the population would die because they don't know how to survive.

That means you cant go to the store for meat, milk, eggs, cheese, veggies, etc etc.
No McDonald's, Pizza hut, no fast food or restaurants at all.
You have to fend for yourself.

Depends on where and when.

I couldn't, in an Iowa winter.

It would be easier to do so in an area where I had access to land and specific tools. I couldn't do it if power went off here tomorrow.

I don't know if I would die but it'd certainly lower my quality of life. I think even me, scrawny and with no survival skills whatsoever, would figure out different ways of surviving. Humans have an innate desire to stay alive, we'll do what we must and learn what we must.

There was one winter where we lost power for a few days, and I took my frozen food from the freezer and put it in the smow outside until power came back on.

Since I got a high watt generator and a way to hook it up to the fuse panel so heat and appliances will work. Getting gas isn't usually a problem.
