Disciple of Pan
Was it at Christmas?

btw, did you not get the staff PM requesting you to change your avatar so as to avoid confusing you with another auspicious RFer? :)

Yeah, he might have fallen off the tree. ;-)

Look, I've been using a moon avatar since I joined in 2006. I got dibs! (But I will make it a different one. :) )

Is eating the self cannibalism?
BhagwadGita seems to say that:

"ya enaṁ vetti hantāraṁ, yaś cainaṁ manyate hatam'
ubhau tau na vijānīto, nāyaṁ hanti na hanyate."
BG 2.19

Who considers anyone as the killer or believes that some one has been killed, both are in error, for the 'self' is neither killed nor is the killer.

Similarly, BhagawadGita says that the eater and the eaten are both Brahman, there is no difference, but that verse is a bit more difficult to understand.
Ok let's not eat the self then. Probably tastes terrible anyway.
You have eaten nothing other than 'self' in all your life.

Members, my replies are according to Advaita philosophy of Hinduism.

They got banned?
Did I say that? I said there is no 'self' as RayofLight.:)

Aaaah I was only kidding :)
We could do a rota and swap them in synch. Ok, that's probably too pathetic even for me.

Can't find the self :confused::eek:o_O what da.......:oops:

Your funny post reminded me of Douglas Harding's famous 1961 book 'On Having no Head'.

In a nutshell, we all experience the world in front of us by looking out of our faces. So what is doing the looking, what is behind our faces? When we try to intuit it, it's just a blank, a void.

One of the reviewers said it very well:

"Seriously, if you want the SELF, I know of no quicker faster direct pointing than this. I mean LOOK who is reading this line right now your side of the screen. What does it look like? I'm saying if you look at what is given, at present evidence and without imagination, you will see that there is nothing looking at this line. A very special nothing."

The book is enjoying (books can experience?) renewed popularity and sales recently, after the sorta-Buddhist atheist Sam Harris recommended it in his book Waking Up.
