Christian: Are we christians loving?

Has anyone (christians) realized what so many christians have done? Does anyone realize how the christian faith is viewed today? We preach love, but then hate gays, lesbians, democrats, republicans, Muslims, Hindus, Jainists, Daoists, Pagans, Druids, Athiests, Agnostics, and anything else that is not christian? I dont think I can take much more of this contradictory teaching. We as christians should stand up against the people that love christians, but not anyone else. We should be like christ, who was the greatest humanitarian i can think. We should help people who are in need instead of dubbing them heathens and heretics. I was just wondering if there were any christians out there that see this too.

I see what you are saying here, cvipertooth, but I don't think that christians hate gays, or democrats, or atheists, or any non-christians for that matter (at least they shouldn't). If I hated them I would hate a good portionof the members here on this forum, which is far from the case. Christians don't hate the people, they hate their sin. We hate sin, not the sinner. I think that that is one of the most Christ-like things we can do. I don't hate non-christians because we are told to love our neighbors as we love ourselves.

Change "hate" to "judge" and you have hit the nail on the head.

I think is it getting very boring now christians being accused of this that and the other, hating gays, atheists, blar, blar, blar. We are all individuals and have personal preferences on other individuals. You can't just generally make such statements and expect someone to come along and argue it or agree with it.

If people choose to judge others because of whatever, its their problem, not yours mine or anyone else's, let em get on with it, but stop shoving it in everyone elses faces placing them in the same category.

cvipertooth I had a really great conversation today about this. My Christian friend meet a wiccian and later told me that he thought there was something evil about the religion. I told him what I knew about it and at one point I said, why do you think it is evil, they just worship nature. Is nature evil? He said no and made a discovery today. I think a lot of religious intolerance from any religion comes from xenophobia and any person of any religion who takes the time to look at anothers is going to make the amazing discovery of how similar it is in some ways to their own and how they all have some value and wisdom to them. Many of the Christians who "hate" democrats, liberals, Jews, Muslims, ect may just not know a lot about it and to me its amazing discovery waiting for them to uncover and I feel great joy whenever one of them does. The opposite of course applies for a non-Christian who discovers the wonders of the philosphy of Christ. An amazing gift waiting to be open.

I know many people that use the word "hate" very loosely. Sometimes they say it when they are just annoyed. Religious intolerance is one of the worst things that has plagued humans for thousands of years. Oxymorons such as Religious wars and religious intolerance are nonsensical.
I agree that many people of any faith have their share of stereotypes and judgements. Many like I have stated elsewhere are meek and humble and very caring of all types of people.

I'll be honest with you, NetDoc. The answer is never. Maybe If I knew some gay people in my area I would try it, though.

We seek out our own, the people who we are most comfortable with. But that wasn't how Jesus did it. He sought out the prostitutes, and even men with leprosy. He ate and drank with tax collectors (hey, even -I- draw the line there!!! :D ) as well as the spiritual people in the city.

As Paul would put it: He was all things to all men.

Whoa.

What a calling.

BTW, NOK= Not Our Kind. It's the very root of bigotry and intolerance.

For every "Christian" (and yes the quotes are deliberate) out bashing anyone who doesn't fit their idea of what a Christian is or someone who follows a different religion (or none), there are many more who do not.....they just don't get the media attention because it doesn't sell papers.

That's a very good point, especially since, here on the forums, there are about five or six true Christians (not that I'm anyone to try to say who's being 'true' to their faith) who practice love and kindness for every person who would have us believe otherwise about Christianity. It's very heartening.

About an hour ago.;)

Don't think that just because I am friends with gay/lesbian/tg people that it means they don't know exactly how I feel.

Jesus ate with sinners to CONVERT them..... not to socialize..... but he always loved them, sins and all.... that, to me, is the essense of true Christian behavior.

Just a thought.

Great thoughts Scott. But I think he socialized some too. He really put the needs of others ahead of his own. If only I could do that with consistency!

The term "Christian" is the pivotal word here as others have indicated. I will take your challenge one step further. I suggest (from the teachings in my branch of Christianity, and what I believe to be truth) that if we consider another condemned because they don't believe the way we/I do, we are living in an area of thought and attitude that is not Christ like.[/font]
