I did read that article. I also posted a link to a more authoritative one later. When a group claims "better than placebo" then need some fairly strong numbers since the placebo effect can vary widely. If it was "better than placebo" then the results would be clear and that is far from the case.
My best friend and spa owner is a "Reiki Master". She really and for true believes this life force or energy as she calls it can be manipulated by her hands to feel what's ailing her clients. Nothing physical but their emotional off balance state. She knows I don't believe in any energy emanating from her waving hands, but I listen to her various stories and nod with a polite smile and a wow every so often.

What it actually does is gives the client a very peaceful and calming experience where they get to have someone to listen to their issues and believe they are being helped. They both believe "the energy" is at work. I've seen them go in and after they come out they are much happier and calm. So it does work in that regard.

My friend doesn't claim to be able to heal a physical medical issue and no one who is ethical should claim that. It is an emotional healing which can definitely be real and helpful in reducing emotional stress which can cause physical problems.

Way back when she first started practicing I did ask exactly how this Reiki worked but never could get a complete, understand answer from her so I dropped it. It works for her and her clients. If it doesn't help, they don't come back for another 80 buck an hour session. But most of them come back.

"Reiki is a Japanese form of alternative medicine called energy healing. Reiki practitioners use a technique called palm healing or hands-on healing through which a "universal energy" is said to be transferred through the palms of the practitioner to the patient in order to encourage emotional or physical healing." Wikipedia

I want to try this. What do you suppose is the "universal energy"? :)

In my opinion, Universal Energy is the energy that is created and available to all of humanity from God. It is the energy that runs through your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual bodies. Reiki is basically a system of natural healing.

Evidently you are not using the word "energy" in its scientific sense.

And this looks like commercial spamming to me.

I am not familiar enough with Reiki to comment other than a Reiki practitioner was part of our hospice team and patients enjoyed a spiritual, peaceful uplifting. So it certainly is not without merit.

People on hospice often enjoy any human contact. The question is whether it is worthy of any taxpayer money. Right now the answer is "No".

They exercise their right to refuse anyone they wish and often do. I assume by taxpayer money you mean Medicare?

Sorry for the delayed response. Yes, a huge part of feeling better or even good for some depends on the emotional support of those who can listen and give encouragement to the emotionally or physically sick. So I definitely believe in Reiki as a tool in that regards. Loneliness. isolation and fear and the desperation that can bring only add to a physical ailment.

Hospice and hospital care have started adding this and massage therapy to their reprotior of healing tools which I agree is safe, effective, and helpful for many.

I believe Buddah was correct in the theory of using the power of our own minds to determine our own thoughts and outcomes. What ever the circumstances may bring or be.
