Is this the defining mark of true Christians?

What does it mean to preach world wide?

Would true Christians follow any mandatory preaching methods?

It's not the defining mark and neither is it mandetory

However, Jesus said this to his disciples (and I think this applies to his modern day disciples too):

Matthew 28:18-20 (New American Standard Bible)
18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.19 Go, therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to follow all that I commanded you; and behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Considering that its on the conscience of any
Christian who failed an adequate effort to
save a soul from hell, how does one find time
for anything but evangelizing.

The church is to spread the gospel to the world but the Lord is in charge of that work.

I wouldn't call it the defining mark of a Christian, but rather the mandate to the body of Christians.

It is possible that the statement is derived from Matthew 24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

There isn't any mandatory preaching "methods" as preaching could be even defined as just giving testimony of what God has done in one's life and then offering the gift of salvation to be part of a new Kingdom life and living.

So something as simple as "Both my wife and I came from a divorced home and after 8 years of marriage we were heading in the same direction. After we both gave our lives to Jesus Christ, in 24 hours our marriage was filled with God's love and completely turned our marriage around. That is the power that the resurrection of Jesus Christ can do in your life! Would you like to have your sins forgiven and have the power of resurrection come into your life? He loves you just as much as He loves me because He died on the cross for everyone" would be classified as "preaching to the world".

and again, as my friend does in India and Pakistan to tens of thousands of Muslims and Hindus,

"For God so loved the world, love you, that He gave His only begotten son so that if you believe on Him you will have everlasting life! And to prove it, if He doesn't do a miracle today, call me a false prophet and run me out of here"... and miracles happen and people give their lives to Jesus... that also would be classified as preaching the Gospel.

So it can take many forms and fashions... from one on one just answering questions or "preaching" the resurrection to the masses... Jesus just wants us to reach out to the world.

Does that help you?

Yes it does, thanks. This is pretty much the conclusion I have come to from reading the Bible.

I come from a background in which preaching was not only mandatory, but one had to count the hours they preached, and would be if they didn't preach. Preaching also played an important role in determining prestige in the congregation.

Christian discipleship calls all to 'go forth and spread the Gospel (Good News)'.
I like to add the quote "and when necessary, use words'.

When they try it on me I look
puzzled and then say something in
Cantonese. Then they go away.

Interesting... I would look at it this way:

TLB 1 For 12:24 So God has put the body together in such a way that extra honor and care are given to those parts that might otherwise seem less important.

KJV 1 Corinthians 12:27 Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues

All parts are important. One part is not more "prestigious" than another.

Everyone has different capacities... One, two or five talents... but it is faithfulness to God that counts and not your position.

It may be the person who is cleaning the bathroom faithfully that received more honor than the very talented preacher that coasted and just preached every once in a while.

I think true Christians (=disciples of Jesus) do it voluntarily, because they think it is good and they love Jesus and God. And if they do it, they remember this:

Whoever will not receive you nor hear you, as you depart from there, shake off the dust that is under your feet for a testimony against them. Assuredly, I tell you, it will be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city!"
Mark 6:11

Not spreading the gospel every second does not have to prick your conscience if it is not God's will for us to do that with everyone and all the time.

Everyone all the time would be nuts.

Similarly likewise, thinking one knows
what "god" wants.

Part of the Christian faith is that God lives in us and leads us. So thinking you know what God wants from us is an everyday thing for many Christians.
