Who is "Our Lady" in Catholic speak and why

Nowhere in the bible did Jesus say to wait 60 or 100 years for the bible, to read, to follow. Instead, Jesus personally selected Apostles (clergymen), to go and organize things, and set precedents for things like baptism, circumcision, and other ceremonial Bishop-type things.

Sola Scriptura itself is a *Tradition* -not advocated by Christ!

Sola Scriptura does not mean to reject the teachings of Jesus himself. It means when confronted with someone telling you something CONTRARY to the Gospel (again Galatians 1:8 ), you should only trust the Gospel. Even if it's someone claiming to be Gabriel ( *cough*Muslims*cough*cough*), if they tell you something besides "love your neighbor as yourself" or somehow distort this teaching, throw it out!

Personal Relationship with Jesus > The Bible > the words of the Pope, your Bishop, your priest, your parents, or anyone else

I Googled this, "because of her assumption and role as mother for all of us, she prays for us, interceding
on our behalf just as she did at Cana, asking the Lord to bestow graces to us as He wills.

Why is Mary referred to as the "mediatrix"? - Catholic Straight Answers

A lot of this stuff is as alien to me as Islam.

Originally, the Holy Spirit/Logos used to be the feminine Sophia/Wisdom, but the patriarchs couldn't abide that so it became the male holy spirit. I think that Catholics wanted to add the feminine touch back in with Mary, but it would've been easier just to reclaim Sophia instead.

Sola Scriptura - I had to look this one up again, just in case this was a trick point.
It isn't. I am not conversant on what the Protestants mean by this, but in principle
yes, the scripture should be your guide - other than the spirit.

I think they wanted to make the Bible a one-size-fits-all instead of letting God speak to each of us in the way that is best for us and what we need. Big mistake, IMO. The Bible is not a god.

are Catholic churches often named with the title "Our Lady"?

In Novato, CA there is a Catholic church named "Our Lady of Loretto".

Yes. Our Lady is the Virgin Mary.

There are different instances of Her. For instance, our Lady of Fatima. Which I suppose they all coincide, if we do not want to have an inflation of virgin Maries.

But do they coincide? I am not sure. When the pope was hit by a bullet, he claimed that the lady in Fatima deflected the bullet, so that he could still survive. Sounds a bit like a critique to the other Ladies for not having done anything about that bullet. Maybe some other Lady could have done better, like vaporising that bullet completely, and save the costs of the pope's hospitalisation.

But if they are all the same, why specify if she was from Fatima or whatever? I don't know. Probably it takes a Catholic mindset to understand that.

What I would like to see is something like our Lady of Teheran. But I am not holding my breath. Mary likes to appear miraculously only in place where they already believe in her. For obvious reasons.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel.

Big name in the Catholic world. They, the Church, mysteriously names all kinds of places under Mary the mother of Christ.I don't know why Loreto and Mount Carmel are special places in regards to Jesus' mother. She might be Our Lady of Bethlehem since Christ was born in a stable there. Why is she "our" lady anyway? Who gave HER to US?

How about Our Lady of America? Yes, that would be the big statue in New York, Miss Liberty. Maybe? or The First Lady?'

I say "Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ" and not 'Virgin Mary". I leave her personal sex life or lack thereof out of it. That she gave birth of the Son of God according to Christian teaching is of the most importance.
