AOC vs Trump

Is your issue the statement "the world is going to end in 12 years" ? If so, it seems to me that you're playing an extremely dangerous game with semantics.

What I understand in regards to this "12 year" claim is that if we don't make serious changes, then in 12 years we will have no chance to reverse climate change that will result in the displacement of ONE BILLION people. Now if ONE BILLION people are displaced, it's extremely hard to imagine that society as we know it will survive. Given the enormity of the situation, "the world is going to end" seems like a reasonable statement to me.
The problem is climate deniers trust the word of Big Oil over scientists.

Actually, I asked if you are serious.
Your aoc sure says some foolish and
ill considered things.
It will be interesting to see if she is a flash
in the pan, or finds enough similarly facile
and agenda-driven sorts to keep her
in office.

My claim was that she was the most intellectually honest politician in DC. To be meticulously honest, I'd probably amend that to "in the top 5 or 10 most honest", but for our purpose, that strikes me as splitting hairs.

That doesn't mean that I ALWAYS agree with her. But on critical issues like climate change, I do.

Not as dangerous as trying to justify that claim.

That was creative.
And how about national rent control....they even loopier idea?
It's a problem that she says things without giving them thought.

I will say this for national rent control-
if that were to happen, the investments
from my family in real estate development
would go to zero. Similarly likewise with
other private developers.

Which would be terrif! Then the govt can
take over.

There is no hair splitting to do.
But if you cannot figure out what she is
or what is wrong with the things she
proposes, so much the worse for america.

Aye, real estate has always had a risk different from other businesses,
ie, that it's anchored to a location. Unfriendly government actions can
be an onerous burden. Rent control is the worst of all, making
investment much less attractive. For AOC to favor it nationwide
indicates something very wrong with her thinking.

I'm making specific claims. You're waving your arms around. Be brave and get specific.

Hard to say. I think she just adopts any far left
idea that comes along, and uses it to get attention,
and pander to the ignorant.
What she actually understands or believes, who could
say.

AOC isn't just intellectually challenged, she also has some progress
to be made in being civil to the opposition, eg, calling Trump a racist.
While she might believe this is true, it's uncivil to say so.

Why?
If it is the truth.

Trump would not hesitate to make personal attacks on anyone. And does so daily.

climate change

(And I think this is about the 4th time I've mentioned climate change in this thread)

I do not think there is anyone who does not
understand that climate changes.

Is there some specific thing she says about it
that you find to be uniquely "intellectually honest'?

Her statements on Dorian?
Something in here?

There are a lot of diseases that are frozen in some of these glaciers. That scientists fear that there’s a lot of diseases that could escape these melted glaciers that were frozen for thousands of years. And that they’re going to get into our water. And that humans could contract them. And they are going to be diseases that are thousands of years old that have vectors that we are not prepared for, that we have never seen. So, that’s a concern.

every coastal city will go underwater,

and of course that-

the Midwest and large swaths of the rest of the country will experience drought, and the sun will scorch Earth so much that we won’t be able to grow crops.

Anyone with a bit of education knows that people
have been pretty good over the centuries, at
causing some of it. See "desertification".

That chance that she is an expert of climate
is hovering about the negative minus zero range.

It is plain impossible that there are not a great
many people in DC who are far better informed.

Anyway, "climate change" is NOT an example of
intellectual honesty. it is two words.

ETA read that "disease in glacier" thing and see if
you can find fault in it. Anything?

The personal attack thing is offensive of course.

But then, calling someone "racist" is too.
Of course,I dont think there is anyone on earth
who is not.
Still, I think that the whole "Trump is a racist"
thing is just what his opponents like to say
and say so often they make it true in their own minds.

I am no trump fan, but I dont see that one.

I am no fan of rent control. It demonstrates a belief in a magic wand. The government can wave this wand and hey presto! No more housing problem. I live near uber-liberal Seattle where they would love to have rent control but state laws trump them. Meanwhile as they bemoan the lack of affordable housing the keep passing rules and regulations that force the price of housing up. Sometimes I think that a course in economics should be a prerequesite of running for a political office. Might as well add a course in the basics of science too. Unfortunately anyone can and does run for office in this country.

It wasn't that....it was defense of the claim of the world
ending in 12 years. If Trump had said something so loopy,
would you be so charitable & imaginative in excusing it?

Aye, she is indeed a creature of the Trump era.
Outrageous claims have become an accepted norm for the tribes.

If it is the truth.
You've reminded me of me pappy (may he rest in agony).
He too would say cruel things to people, justifying his opinion
with "Well, it's true.".
Were I to speak truths I observe about my fellow posters,
I'd be bounced out of here on me ear. Some opinions are
best left unvoiced, even if one believes them to be The Truth.
Trump would not hesitate to make personal attacks on anyone. And does so daily.
Trump should not set the standard for civil discourse.
Democrats who ape his style are no better than he.

Hah...an easy one!
But would AOC be able to tolerate me?
We'd have some interesting discussions.
