I think you're correlating the two because most people in this society are Christian. Euthanasia/assisted suicide is legal in some US states and countries in the West. It's not legal in most of the world, so I don't think this is really a Christian issue.

This thread is about joyless religions which I find Christianity to be. And btw, do not presume to know me as my mother has been a devout Christian her entire life. She is lovely and exudes joy about her views of God. And furthermore, she respects my choices to be Buddhist.

The brochure says they encourage joy, but when you actually go there, you find nothing but restrictions.

Which religions are joyless?

Islam and Christianity as interpreted by the Amish.

The former because it severely limits the freedoms of its women and prescribes primitive, sadistic punishments for violations of its credo.

The latter because of the internal hypocrisy of its practitioners. I've personally observed the oppression and, actually, recently read a very accurate book about one such former member's experience - Tears of the Silenced by Misty Griffin.

I had forgotten the Amish and their ilk.
they are not the only faith that throws out members who do not conform. Even breaking up families in the process.

And how do you know that with 100% certainty? Kent, I can appreciate and totally support your choice of faith but when you post things like this, you say it as if it were true for all people and that is simply not the case. One needs to respect the fact that many others have chosen different paths.

I do agree that the choice of an Amish life is far from easy. I have visited the Lancaster area of PA and was blessed to be asked to share dinner served by an Amish family. It was fascinating and absolutely delicious. The mother was very happy and proud of her children and her life. However, that said, I am more than sure there are many who hate the life. No electricity, no heat save wood, its not easy to live that way. But for some, it is what makes them happy.

Religion, according to one definition is the sigh of the oppressed. Religion is basically a way to get out of the oppression. Thus Religion has to be joyless.

WOW what a dismal prospect, and outlook.
I hope All Muslims do not believe that.
