aliens and the bible

i am unclear about this. is the existence of aliens (intelligent life living somewhere other than earth) not consistant with what the bible says? if a space ship full of volcans were to land infront of the white house tommorow would this prove the bible is wrong concerning other life? would it cause a religious riot throughout the world?

I think they can find some way to read some quote of the bible in some different way, making the bible in some way correct again. :p

I don't know about the arrival of Vulcans but life existing elswhere than Earth is certainly scriptural. Haven't you ever heard the song "He came from heaven to earth to show us the way...."

:D You need to read Hebrews 11. It talks about things accomplished through faith.

Verse 34 reads: "Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.":D

That is hilarious, Nutshell. I do not believe it is addressed, either way in that way, and Bouncing Ball is correct that many consider the bible to be open to interpretation. Literalists may have a big problem accepting it, though.

I don't think the mjority of people who have faith based upon what the Bible says would care, if their faith were to be shattered so easily, they'd have to question why they believed in the first place.

For a potential explanation of where aliens occur in the Bible, please see the thread "Is Elohim Plural in Hebrew". We have been discussing this throughout that thread.

If aliens landed on earth.......it wouldn't negate one word of the bible. Why would it?

I'd invite the aliens over to try my BBQ ribs with a beer chaser! :D

I'd keep their presence a bit hush-hush for now. Hate for them to have to worry that people might start burning their flag...

if that happened i would simply dismiss it as a test from god and a nonexistent mass-hallucination done as sed test

So what if these 'aliens' looked like humans and in every way, shape and form were humans? What would be so horrible about that?

Well, some religions wouldn't care at all, I expect. No need to limit yourself just to the scriptures from 2 religions. There are plenty more.

Here's a bit of what I whimsically refer to as "Baha'i Sci Fi" :):

"Know thou that every fixed star hath its own planets, and every planet its own creatures, whose number no man can compute."

(Baha'u'llah, Gleanings from the Writings of Baha'u'llah, p. 162)

Truthfully, I never could get into the idea of a Creator who would limit the Creation to one planet full of sentient beings (most of whom may be frying in hellfire, no less). It seems, well...not very...Creative?
