Neutron Radiation to blame for False Turin Shroud Dating?

Semi-interesting. An 8.2 earthquake might have almost certainly leveled the city, though the gospels do mention an earthquake at the time of Jesus's death. Whether the image is of Jesus or someone else, maybe aftershocks caused the radiation imprint.

Having trained as an archeologist, I wonder how anyone ever thought radiocarbon dating would work on such an artifact. When taking samples from an excavation, great care is needed to avoid contamination. Yet there they were, dating a piece of cloth that's been repeatedly handled for centuries. How much of that date related to the cloth, how much to the skin cells, grease, and other contaminants?

Enough that 3 different labs came up with the same date

If your sample is contaminated, you get a false date. It doesn't matter 30 labs test a bad sample: it's still going to give the wrong date.

This is just another case of certain people who wont be happy until they get a date they desire, not one backed by credible research.

Even if we get a earlier date there is no tie to a Galilean.

AND we are talking about a time in history when fakes and frauds were everywhere and very very popular.

The current dating also matches every historical criteria that we would expect.

Neutron radiation caused by 33 A.D. earthquake could have led to "wrong" 1988 radiocarbon dating of Shroud, suggest researchers....

Then said researchers have a problem they apparently haven't explained because neutron bombardment--UNLIKE bombardment with alpha, beta, and gamma radiation--tends to INDUCE radiation in the target!

And the last I heard, the shroud was not radioactive.

Uh oh, my luggage is now radioactive?

Also, all of Jerusalem should be radioactive! Or, least more active than its surroundings.
