Help me find a religion

This belief-o-matic thingie gives me a different religion every time I take the quiz.

Here is what I believe...I think:

I believe in a Creator God who is loving, but I can't understand how natural disasters that kill people could be done by a loving God. I want to blame it on an evil Satan-like spirit instead.

I don't know what I believe in regard to an incarnation of God.

I believe in a heaven, but not sure if I believe in a hell. There should be some sort of punishment, but I don't know whether I think it would be for those who don't believe in God or those who do evil acts.

I think we should try to live simply and help poor people and fight injustice.

I don't agree with wars and violence.

Help me out! I'm such a mess!

Dear Thirza,
Religions are like houses that people built according to their conditioning. There is no perfect house. There is always growth. One may break down the old houses and build new ones. some people live in the houses( religions or beliefs) built by their parents or grand parents. They want to be loyal to it.
I am happy that you have built your own house. Treat that as a tent than a permanent house. Be open and look at the other houses and see if you can learn something from them. If you feel to change your house do so. Be always a learner until you discover that truth cannot be put into four walls and a roof. To live in the truth means to live in the infinite space and be a pilgrim in it. God is a pilgrim. Building houses for God robs God of his or her freedom and creativity.
Jesus Christ said:the foxes have their holes, the birds have their nests, the son of man has nowhere to lay down and rest. He was a pilgrim. He was living in the Truth. Ultimate religion is that in which there is one hundred percent love of God and one hundred percent love of neighbour. This cannot be put into any religion. This is something internal according to which one has to live. When Jesus said, 'the Father and I are one', it is one hundred percent love of God. When he said what ever you do to the least of my brothers and sisters that you do unto me' is one hundred percent love of neighbour.

Don't let that decide what religion you should follow.

The sixth pillar of faith in Islam is to accept/believe in the decree of God, the good of it and the bad of it.

There is wisdom behind natural disasters. You should try to find the wisdom behind them and not just the apparent destruction. Lets take rain as an example; We don't mind rain nor do we see it as harmful so long as it doesn't cause flooding. But look at rain from an ants perspective then it becomes a natural disaster. So how can any amount of rain be beneficial if it is harmful to ants?

I don't know what I believe in regard to an incarnation of God.

Islam is against the idea of an incarnated God.

I believe in a heaven, but not sure if I believe in a hell. There should be some sort of punishment, but I don't know whether I think it would be for those who don't believe in God or those who do evil acts.

Islam teaches that those who deny God and those who believe but do evil deeds will enter Hell. Some for a limited time and some will never come out.

I think we should try to live simply and help poor people and fight injustice.

Islam supports this idea. Our Prophet has advised us not to look at those who have more (wealth) than us, but instead we should look at those who have less than us and help them out. To take care of orphans and to speak the truth in front of a tyrant even if it means death.

I don't agree with wars and violence.

So how would you go about fighting for justice if the other guy starts shooting at innocent people? Wouldn't you kill him if you could?

If you have any questions in relation to what I have said, feel free to ask. You can also ask questions related to Islam in the Islamic DIR.

Sometimes we have to admit that reality isn't what we'd always like it to be. You can find a religion or demonination or spirituality to cater to your every 'I want evil people to be punished' etc.etc. feeling, however the reality might be that there is no heaven and hell and that what we do here and now is what matters most - standing up against injustice, makeing the world a better place, being content, helping those who are less fortunate.

About the belief-o-matic, what kind of suggestions has it given you? I find the level of importance you give to each answer makes all the difference.

Well, since some of my views aren't solidified, I have been given many results, like Liberal Quaker, Jainism, Islam, Unitarian Universalist, if I remember right. Very confusing.

Interesting that Jainism was chosen. Of course I'm biased about Dharmic religions, so I would say, maybe check that one out (though it doesn't really fit in with your current beliefs at the moment).

Because, generally, we avoid the mistakes we make in mathematics as we become cognizant of them, I think punishment is inappropriate other than as a self-imposed amusement.

Great. Now I got Hinduism on Belief-o-matic. :( How about you supposed to narrow down your views in order to choose only one belief?

Eh, belief-o-matic made me new thought once xD it's not always legit.

If I could offer some unsolicited advice...

Sometimes it does take a while. I dabbled in quite a lot before I found my home in Hinduism. Took me 5 years to get it right <_< But when I got it, I got it. I would recommend you just keep searching and looking and reading, and decide what is best for you. Sometimes, being apathetic to religion can help, because it gives you the chance to observe as you go, without attaching to any specific belief structure (not that you are, that's just a general statement. Lord knows I had to do that for a while lol).

Would it be okay if I prayed for God to give you guidance? If not, that's okay too.

Namaste!

Don't worry, in my last belief-o-matic quiz attempt I got Hinduism (100%) and Catholicism (98%).

So I would not take it as "gospel" or else I should be Hindu at the moment too :thud:

I should just be a different religion each week. That would be fun. :D

Remember, belief-0-matic is over lapping beliefs or most in common,
not necessarily what you ought to be.

And yes.... it's for thought, not for answers. :D

Was M.I.A for a while
I took that quiz too and it said I was Muslim one time and a Quaker another time. Now, I'm just content with not labeling myself and believing what I believe; not what a "religion" says I should believe. I don't say I follow a religion; I say I follow a way of life and even thought I don't adhere to the doctrine of the Trinity, I do follow Christ. Be content with what you do know and continue your search. Consider everyone your brother or sister and be open minded as you ask questions. Also, remember, truth stands strong and never fails or contradicts but a lie will fall and contradict. Certain truths are proven through time and experience; its like an awakening.
