Sometimes there is no easy was, it really depends on your parents. Being a closeted atheist can be just as hard as anything else in some cases. I read an article on this recently on American atheists

http://www.atheists.org/comingout/othercloset.html

Perhaps that will be of some help.

I never had much trouble with being an atheist as a child because my parents weren’t religious. I did get some grief from relatives, but that’s quite a different matter.
I’m a vegan now as well, and as a child there were some conflicts with my meat eating parents regarding my choice to be a vegetarian, so I can relate in some respects.

If you ever need anybody to talk to for morale support, give me a shout. Good luck, and never be ashamed of your intelligence or convictions, they’re your greatest assets.

Welcome to the forums totalmuggle.

Wow you do have a slight problem, and not an easy one to help with either.

Let me think about it some more and I will get back to you.

It might help to discuss this with your parents with an objective fourth party. Hope all turns well for you.

Hello totalmuggle. I recognize you from VeggieBoards. I see you asked the same question here you did over there, and I can see the people both here and there have already given you some great advice. I would just suggest relaxing and try to appreciate and learn from the tools you have already and when you are out on your own, you can explore other paths as you like. But being a minor and living with your parents, I would urge to be respectful of their wishes for now, even if you don't argee or like them.

sometimes you just gotta' grit your teeth like your smiling and bare it....
Once your are on your own... I'm assuming your a minor....
If you don't want to risk alienating them and/or royally cheezing them off, you can then ease your way out of the religious circle giving them time to adapt to the idea...
kinda' like training a pet 8)

worked on my mom...

This is also true. Being that you are so young it's almost impossible to "not" do what your parents tell you. I am assuming they are strict Christians and will not like this new development so just stick it out a couple years untill you are your own person and then maybe tell them.

I agree, In my case, not only I had to wait until I became an adult, I also had to be out of their house. If I was still living there, I would have surely been kicked out.

I'm not an atheist but a uniterian universalist. My family are fundamentalists and to them anything dealing with the New Age movement is evil.

Totalmuggle, good luck on your new path.

laws legislate right from wrong or morality. the law states a person must attend school until at least a certain age. the two most important topics a person can discuss is religion foremost and politics second as u should know and be educated as to whom rules u and if that leader is justified in passing a law. vote, and be informed when possible. religion foremost because u need to know where u r going after u die. since it must be important enough to pass a law forcing one to have the opportunity to be educated: it would follow that religion being more important should be imposed upon a child while dependent on parents whether it is inconvenient, uncomfortabe, or unsettling. if u don't have a relationship with the God or ure understanding, u r bereft of love and devoid of eternal knowledge, which is necessary for the path to heaven.
