Did Christ appear to other nations?

What you are saying are Joseph Smith's teachings are primarily Brigham Young's teachings, but a person would have to take the time and make th effort to find that out.
I have read writings of them both, but do not find their writings on official LDS sites. It just confuses me, where they say things, and they are 'prophets', but then it is not out in the open on the official sites. Like, I read their actual writings, and then people say they believe them, like about God being once a man and stuff, but then, they say its not in their Church's Official Beliefs. So, I dunno, I don't think I even wanna know anymore.

Not out on in the open on the official site? You obviously haven't been looking in the right places.

Actually Jesus DID minister to gentiles. I didn't read all 19 pages to see if this has been posted... but it happened multiple times in the bible. Mark 7:25-30 and Matthew 15:21-28 tell of the Syrophoenician Woman who was a gentile. John 4:1-42 Jesus speaks with the woman at the well (a half gentile). Most people know the thief on the cross. Luke 7:1-10 and Matthew 8:5-10 talk of the roman centurion, also a gentile.

You would have to REALLY stretch that verse to get to your point. That is usually the problem I encounter with mormonism in general. Trusting in countless people who verify the original bible is hard enough. Jumping to a belief in merely one man and golden disks unseen by anyone but him is harder than possible imo.

http://www.lds.org/ Is that not your official site? It seems to present a nice glossy 'christian' church, but I suspect one must dig deeper to find the real truth behind Mormonism.

Hello, Minty One. Welcome to RF!

About the countless people who have verified the original Bible, what exactly do you mean by that? We definitely don't have a single original Biblical document, and for centuries we needed to rely on hand-copied copies of copies. So who "verified the original" and what would that have entailed.

And now, about the Book of Mormon, twelve individuals other than Joseph Smith saw and held the plates. Even though many of them later left the Church due to personal conflicts with Joseph, every last one went to his grave stating confirming his testimony of what he'd seen.

Oh, yeah. For sure. You definitely wouldn't want to trust the official source. What you see there is simply a sham. We only want to appear "Christian." The real truth  -- now that's scary. Gotta go for the National Enquirer version. Pure mud.

I don't think the official website showcases the major (maybe only major to me?) differences from normal protestant faith and mormonism. It does sort of stray from the more interesting questions imo. Move to my thread about this! I just started one :) Im really interested in mormon thought.

Well, duh. Doesn't that tell you something, Mike? It's not on the official site because it's not official doctrine. The word "doctrine" means "teaching." We teach our doctrines. Give me one good reason why our Church's official website should include things we don't teach? Just one! So you "don't even wanna know any more." You've never wanted to know.

I like how I was nice, but now I am the national enquirer and mud. I love the way I am constantly insulted in these nice little ways. But, alas, I am not a Moderator, so I am at your mercy, nah, I'm outta here.

Okay, but others believe these writings of Joseph Smith, that God was a man, and all that, yet you hide behind the fact that it is not on your website, its rubbish, I am outta here.

Good bye.

There are hundreds of manuscripts and letters dating back the actual time of christ that are not biblical but place jesus where he said he was. What i mean is although the 10's of thousands of manuscripts of the bible are in fact re-copied and re-copied, I feel there is sufficient warrent for the at least the occurances to have taken place. Very few people would actually go so far as to say Jesus never existed... and for good reason, we might say 'no way' to the miricle portion of the bible but you can't say he never was there. (I find myself going that far with Joseph Smith flying close to solo)

And thanks for the welcome! :)

Well, I guess I just don't base my faith on those things. Sure, they're nice to have, but they aren't what a testimony is all about.

These scriptures don't constitute in Christ taking the Gospel to the Gentiles. He couldn't just not talk to Gentiles all of his life. Anyway at least 11 people saw the golden PLATES. The first 3 people that saw the plates ended up apostizing and leaving the church. Guess how many recanted seeing the plates. NOT ONE. I really can see how you guys don't believe this. Personally I wouldn't either. But, I read the Book of Mormon and prayed to God to see if it was true and to see if Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God. The feeling that I recieved was the most glorious feeling I've ever felt. It is just as James 1:5 says, that if you lack wisdom ask God and he will give you the knowledge of the truth of all things. Think about Joseph Smith. He had the First VIsion when he was 14 years old, and was persecuted from that time forward. Why when your fourteen would you go through the hardships he went through for something that wasn't true. I mean he was killed for this religion. The truth is that it is true Joseph saw Christ and God the Father. He suffered these things because he knew, as I do, that this is the only true church.

It's on the website actually.. If you search in the right place. We don't call your church's website/faith/etc. rubbish, please don't call ours that.

Actually, now you are talking a numbers game. HOW many people count? You gotta understand that to even talk about reaching outside of judaism was extreme, but he actually did it, was the example. But he DID go.. your trying to extrapolate a cross continent trip out of that phrase, difficult for me.

I respect your faith, and conversion experience. Mormonism to me isn't a disbelief at all! I just see it as faith in God mixed with faith in Men... almost.. TOO much faith :p

Sorry Beckysoup, I didn't mean to imply that the LDS church is rubbish, and I am sorry to have used such a strong term to describe what I meant. What i meant, was that it seems like, and I did search the sight, on the surface the LDS website presents itself just like a typical Christian Church, and I know you believe your church to be a Christian Church, but it is not TYPICAL of mainstream Christianity. The LDS believes some things that Bible-only believing churches just do not accept, and strongly disagree with, and those are the things that I find are difficult to find on the site. That is the way it seemed to me, but thats just me. I just believe in the Bible alone, faith alone, Jesus alone, that I can know i am saved and will never go back into condemnation, and Jesus loves me and i am his child forever by simply accepting His free gift, just simple faith in My Saviour, in his death as payment for my sins, and as his cloke of righteousness being imputed onto me freely, and sealed up forever by the Holy Ghost who baptized me into the body (or church) of Christ the moment I first believed. The only sacraments I observe are believer's baptism and communion, not to get any more saved than I am, but because I am saved. ah, rambling.... okay, again, sorry for the word I said, my apologies. Not been myself lately.

Sincerely,

Michael
