Quick question...

You can go to your User CP and click on "group memberships". From there you can choose to join the Theists group if you like. Once you've done that, then at the bottom of that page you will have the option of identifying yourself as a member of that group and your name will be purple. There are other groups you can join as well you may find there and they will also open up hidden subforums as well that are only accessible for members of those particular groups.

And brown is also a moderator colour.
It goes:

New mod: brown
Super mod: blue
Red mod: Administrator
Green mod: on sabbatical

You can also just hover over someone's name and you will see what the color stands for.

Frubals are just ways of telling someone you liked their post really. Upper right hand corner of a post is a scale symbol next to the report symbol. If you want to add a frubal to someone you simply click on the scale and you can leave a little comment telling them what you thought of their post. Frubal comments can be seen on your User CP. Just FYI, some of us older members have enormous amount of frubals because the frubal system use to be different in that you use to give more frubals the more you had and the inflation got out of hand. So the system was reset to just giving one at a time across the board. So the numbers themselves are confusing and aren't really to be paid much heed to at this point :p It's mainly for just knowing that someone has liked something you've said and for letting someone else know the same.

I did not know this either, actually I never even thought of what color my own name has.

It's black, why is that?

General member. It just means you haven't joined any groups and identified yourself as such or are not staff.
